Following on from the "Peter" thread, what is the first name that springs to mind?

My shortlisted names have been rejected by DH and he hasn't made any suggestions of his own (it's too early apparently). The short list included:
Robert
Nicholas
Alastair
Tobias/Toby
Rupert

We are looking for something traditional but not too popular. I am being fussy though and whilst I like

Andrew, I don't like Andy
Ditto Christopher / Chris
Matthew / Matt

Many thanks!

I LOVE Ant as a nn!!

SpiderWilliam · 25/07/2010 16:42

I have done DH he disservice! He suggested Anthony. We like Ant as a nn, but Tony on a child sounds weird, but could be avoided.

David falls into the same category as Andrew for me. Last time I was pregnant I refused to contemplate having a "baby Dave". Is that from the Royale Family? I have a feeling it is.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!

DH is James Jonathan
GF is John
So those have been rejected by DH

I have suggested Joseph, but neither of us love it, and it is a bit popular. Top 15 I think.

I agree that we could go for Andrew and avoid the shortening. However I don't want to ever become like the mother of a colleague who I once met. I said something about working with "Matt" and she said "Matthew" in v glacial terms . DS is always Peter, but I am happy Pete if it ever sticks at school.

Monty is the name of my Aunt's dog who once bit DH. Can't see him going for that one.

With Philip I am trying to avoid another name beginning with P. Same issue with Patrick.

I have a brother called Andrew and he has never been known as Andy.

BelligerentGhoul · 25/07/2010 16:07

I like Rupert.

I think Peter and Robin sound cute together too.

Monty?
James?
Philip?
Barnaby?
