We have a DS already called Matthew. Due in 5 weeks and I really like the name Peter....what do people think? Is it boring? My husband likes William but not sure of this as a first name, might call DS2 Peter William as a compromise!

DS is Peter, now 2yo, so if goes without saying that I like it.

Our experience since he was born has been positive. We have had lots of compliments from people when they find out his name. The +50s all say "ooh you don't hear that very often these days" without exception , and then they complain about the "modern" names their GC's have been given.

I think the risk is that it might be perceived as boring, but in 2008 it was about 135th most popular so not very common which maybe offsets that concern.

Having lulled the GPs into a false sense of security with Peter, dh has threatened to call the next one (due Nov) Troy

My dad is Peter and he keeps saying when is peter going to come back in fashion? lol. I wouldn't use it personally only because I can think of lots of other names I prefer.

My dad was Peter and I think its a top name .

I went to school with boys called Peter so it must be due a come back as boys are named after their grandfathers{smile]. It's a lovely name to go with Matthew, and Pete is OK for NN......Even if you don't want it to be shortend, chances are it will be.

Nice but a little bit boring

Crazycatlady · 22/07/2010 13:02

I don't think it's boring at all, in fact it's quite an unusual choice these days - I only know one child named Peter. He's 19 months. Suits him perfectly!

Great and quite unusual today.
