Peter....thoughts ?!

We have a DS already called Matthew. Due in 5 weeks and I really like the name Peter....what do people think? Is it boring? My husband likes William but not sure of this as a first name, might call DS2 Peter William as a compromise!
Interested in your thoughts

I really like it, wasn't allowed due to bad associations!

misspollysdolly · 25/07/2010 16:07

DS2 is Peter (and often shortened to Pete). It is also my Dad's name! Another for Peter here then! MPD

misdee · 25/07/2010 14:49

Eva17 · 25/07/2010 14:47

It seems to be having a come back on American TV shows, Fringe, Warehouse 13 and a couple of others that have escaped my memory for the moment.

I like it.

LittleMissWorryHead · 24/07/2010 09:27

If you don't like Pete, I wouldn't worry, my Dad is Peter and nobody EVER calls his Pete! My DS has it as a middle name....

I think its a great name

stressheaderic · 24/07/2010 00:53

It's a good strong name. My brother is called Peter and he has a very high-flying (literally) job and the name suits him. I think it makes the transition from baby to child to adult very well.

iloveasylumseekers · 24/07/2010 00:42

Love love love it. Was slightly regretting using it as DS1's middle name but luckily DC3 is a girl, so glad we got it in there somehow.

Both of our DSs' names are similar and would echo @SpiderWilliam's comments re relative rarity, and also lovely comments form older generation.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 23/07/2010 23:29

I know a few my age but none younger - love Peter (hate Pete)

TaurielTest · 23/07/2010 21:21

It's DS's name so obviously I love it. Opened this thread with trepidation, glad to see the consensus is positive. It is unusual these days - not even in the top 100 - but suits him.
It has an interesting history in the UK - v popular in the middle ages, then not at all after the reformation (except for among Roman Catholics - too closely associated with popishness), then had a revival in early 20thc with Peter Pan.
I'd wait until you meet your son to make up your mind though.

FrameyMcFrame · 23/07/2010 21:15

like it, timeless names are good

Mollydoggerson · 23/07/2010 21:13

Lovely

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 23/07/2010 21:09

Nice name It's my DS's middle name and I love it.

KickArseQueen · 23/07/2010 21:06

Yes, go for it, good choice

BibiThree · 23/07/2010 21:01

I adore it. And any son I had would have been called Peter (I had 3 dds though)

chubbychipmonk · 23/07/2010 20:59

Love name Peter, good choice!

Eva17 · 23/07/2010 07:55

Thanks so much for all your replies. Its a name not everyone likes, including my mother I suspect but I love it and think we will go for it! I think I like the fact it is a little old fashioned and not too popular at the moment.

Thanks again.

Absolutely love it. It's a classic!

LadyMetroland · 22/07/2010 21:26

love it

would choose it myself if I was allowed (dh vetoed it )

Colliecross · 22/07/2010 21:11

Peter is great

KittyBigglesworth · 22/07/2010 20:42

Meant to say a shallow misogynist

KittyBigglesworth · 22/07/2010 20:08

I dislike the name Peter. It reminds me of Peter Andre and his entire naffness. How many "Kahi and Peha" fans will name their babies it in honour of his tangoed sexiness? Most of all it reminds me of shallow, misogynist from Surrey who used to describe himself as "posh"! One heinous person can really influence opinion of a name.
I much prefer Robert if the nickname Bobby is banned from use!

nowherewoman · 22/07/2010 17:06

I like Robert, it's sort of a similar kind of name, but has cooler nicknames. I like Peter too though!

Flighttattendant · 22/07/2010 16:57

He's 7 btw.

Flighttattendant · 22/07/2010 16:56

I only know one, and he is the only one in the school!

Lovely names, both of them.
