I heard a little girl called this at the weekend.

I thought it was really cute but is it a name in it's own right or a NN for something else?

Not planning on using it, I'm having a boy. Just thoght it was quite unusual and pretty.

Don't know what it's short for, but I imagine Effie to be a scullery maid.

I believe it's Greek - have known a couple of Effie's and they both are/were Greek. This could explain the Heartbreak High one too, what with their being a lot of Greek-descended people in Australia.

Think it must be short for something though.

I know an Effie who is a Euphoria.

She is about 22 though.
