Boys names more difficult than girls?!

Help!

36 weeks and expecting a boy. We were all set with girls names, but struggling with lads, shortlist at the moment is as follows- could i have your honest opinions please as family comments haven't been helpful at all!! (MIL mainly..ha ha!)

Nathan
Elliot
Luis/Lewis
Lucas

(we have an italian surname)

This is driving me crazy, i'd like something uncommon but not unusual, and something that can't be shortened to something crap or cutesy (MIL again)...

I considered this but we already have a Luca with the same surname in the family.

I have to say.. the more i think about it, the more i like Elliot...

Is it a no no these days to have a unisex name? I do like PTF's suggestion of Alexander, but we have a female alex in the family. Unsure?

DH suggested 'Marco' last night. I like it for an adult but not for a baby...

Thank you all for your comments!

Oslo, Posie???

What about Luca instead of Lucas, with your Italian surname, Palace?

Phoenix · 20/07/2010 21:22

My ds1 is Lewis so I love that. Like Lucas and Elliot too

SirBoobAlot · 20/07/2010 21:14

I love Elliot.

Kathleen123 · 20/07/2010 21:12

I like Elliot best.

lifeas3plus1 · 20/07/2010 19:19

I actually don't know anyone called Elliot so I think I prefer that although your other choices are nice too.

PosieParker · 20/07/2010 19:09

I do like Elliot, despite the fact it's popular.

I also like Ethan, Oslo, Jeremiah, Jonah....

Tasala · 20/07/2010 18:56

ET  I don't think anyone will reference that outside the family. But how about Ellis?

I like Nathan best out of your selection.

PaintingTheFence · 20/07/2010 18:54

How about Elias or Ethan? Similar to Elliot and not related to ET!

Or how about

Samuel
Jacob
Adam
Benjamin
Max
Noah
James
Nicholas
Aaron
Alexander
Gregory
Isaac
Thomas
Marius
Peter

PTF - i also like Nathaniel but my nephew is called Daniel so a bit similar..

I love Elliot- but family keep bringing up the 'ET' aspect- surely that was long enough ago to not count?!

Please do feel free to give me suggestions- i keep going round in circles!

All popular where I live, I have three boys and one girl and the boys were easier. Although if I had another girl tomorrow she would be Posy and a boy would be Humphrey and Humf.

PaintingTheFence · 20/07/2010 18:25

Nathan - it's OK, prefer Nathaniel
Elliot - like
Luis/Lewis - not keen
Lucas - don't particularly like, prefer Luke

Would you like us to suggest others or just comment on these?
