Sorry i know this thread is old but my daughters name is Bracken. I love the name and so does my daughter. I wouldn't change it.

LolaKnickers · 21/07/2010 15:54

Agree with everyone else about horses and dogs. And if you were to use it for a child, I think it is more of a girl's name.

Palace39 · 21/07/2010 13:36

Wihout wishing to offend, had a horse called Bracken...

suzikettles · 19/07/2010 21:55

It's a dogs name.

But then that's what my grandma said about my name when my mum told her what they were calling me.

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 19/07/2010 21:25

I like it too!

yogabird · 19/07/2010 20:23

only if you are expecting a labrador

skyeplusbump · 19/07/2010 20:20

i see where you're coming from, but,
my mums horse is called bracken...

inveteratenamechanger · 19/07/2010 19:44

I like both the plant and the name.

expatinscotland · 19/07/2010 19:41

What? Is it crack or pregnancy hormones?

littleomar · 19/07/2010 19:40

makes me think of lyme (sp?) disease

flopsy1974 · 19/07/2010 19:37

Not my cup of tea I'm afraid. Didn't Cbeebies used to have a pet rabbit called Bracken??

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 19/07/2010 18:21

Well, each to their own, Collie!!

Pachelbel · 19/07/2010 14:53

I once met sisters called Poppy and Bracken. Always thought it was a bit daft I'm afraid, and I'm sure they much have got lots of stick - just like the brothers Moss and Bracken mentioned above.
Moral seems to be that if you do use it, refrain from using any other vegetation related names!

DuelingFanjo · 19/07/2010 10:52

What about Brock?

I love Brock. Not so keen on Bracken though.

gagamama · 19/07/2010 10:46

Lovely. When are you picking up the puppy?

seeker · 19/07/2010 10:46

Imagine yourself in the park. Someone yells "BRACKEN!!!!"

How many legs would you assume the person coming running up will have?

Colliecross · 19/07/2010 10:42

How about Barack?
Similar sound, different associations.

Casmama · 19/07/2010 10:39

Gordon Setter - sorry.

MummyDoIt · 19/07/2010 10:36

I knew two brothers called Moss and Bracken. They got a lot of stick!

hatwoman · 19/07/2010 10:35

actually my dog doesn't like borrowing. he has a rubbish credit record.

Colliecross · 19/07/2010 10:33

Maisie - I like Dandelion.

hatwoman · 19/07/2010 10:32

I would like to come to the defence of bracken. it's not a weed. it's a native moorland plant and it's rather lovely. I see it change colour with the seasons from my door. and my dog loves borrowing around in it. and birds nest in it.

but it's only a good name if you have four legs.

Always wanted to call a ginger cat Bracken.

sweetnitanitro · 18/07/2010 20:34

It would be OK if it wasn't a traditional name for springer spaniels.
