Elspeth shortened to Elsie - what do you think?

Ive finally got dh round to my way of thinking and we are planning on going with this name - what do you reckon?

Love it. Really like Elsie but think it sounds more like a nn than a full name. Never thought of using Elspeth, very pretty.

Love Elspeth, i'll consider it if i ever have another DD, i know a Elspeth in her 20's, she goes by the name Eppie.

I don't think EL-speth sounds much like e-LIZ-abeth. The accents are different and there are a different number of syllables.

Agree the name is grannyish, but it would bother me more that Elspeth may spend her life saying "no, it's not Elizabeth".

My littlest sister is called Elspeth Rose (she'll be 4 in March). I think it's adorable - it really suits her! We're Scottish too. She gets Ellie and Elsie for shorts, but also the full name - she's not exclusively nicknamed.

I like both Elspeth and Elsie, very pretty. Otherwise you could of course have Elisabeth with nickname Elsie.

I know an Elspeth and she is certainly not a little old granny! It's a traditional Scottish name which has become more popular lately. Would rather have a classless, dateless name like Elspeth than share it with the million Olivias, Chloes and Emilys that are everywhere at the moment.

Elspeth looks and sounds clumsy. It's difficult to say so it ounds like a name and not just a drunk trying to say Elizabeth. Awful. Elsie is OK but a bit cutesie and will date. Prefer Elsa.
