aslongasheneedsme - did you do a search of your own name in order to bump this thread?! Hmm Grin

SodoffBaldrick · 08/05/2012 05:42

This thread is nearly two years old.

I think the OP has probably made up her mind one way or the other by now. Grin

I like both of them: I know an Elsie - only thing her mother says is a lot of people think she must be a mis-spelled Elise. I would never have thought of that. Elspeth is nice but I think I prefer Elsa or (if you like all thinks Scottish) what about Ailsa?

efffy · 07/05/2012 22:20

Love Elspeth!! I know a very trendy 22 year old one who goes by the nn Eppie Smile

WMDinthekitchen · 07/05/2012 21:33

Elspeth I like.

Elsie was the name of one of my aunts who would now be well over 100!

Elsa will forever be associated with a lioness (Born Free...)

Ismay (pronounced Izmay)? Esme (pronounced Ezmay)?

ginsmytonic · 07/05/2012 21:04

Yes of course they are old lady names, most lovely ladies are now in their 80's and 90's with those names. its just the wheel is turning and its now their turn to be back in favour. I love elizabeth a little more than elspeth only as its easier to say and elsie is lovely. elizabeth or elisabeth is so versatile you can have so many nn including elsie!

maddiemostmerry · 07/05/2012 20:59

I love Elspeth. Don't like Elsie, I think Elsie Tanner, sorry.

I like aslongas nickname of Eppie though.

EliasRose · 07/05/2012 20:55

Love both! Sister in law is an Elspeth, she's in her twenties, very cool, and it suits her loads! She is mostly called Els for short. Go with it! X

Prefer Elsa

welovesausagedogs · 07/05/2012 16:38

I dislike Elspeth but LOVE Elsie

aslongasheneedsme · 07/05/2012 16:31

I'm an Elspeth of a certain age. When we moved to England from Scotland I got called Elsie, Elsmith and Elsepeth. I got called Elizabeth by a teacher who said Elspeth was "far too difficult for anyone to pronounce" Accept only Elspeth or if forced, Eppie which is a genuinely Scottish abbreviation.

smelltheroses · 23/02/2011 18:14

I think it is beautiful. I know of an Elspeth at my childminders and think it is gorgeous and love Elsie as a nn. Go for it or you will regret it Smile

I like Elspeth and Elsie
(and Elizabeth and Elsa!)
Elspeth is a Scottish derivative of Elizabeth AFAIK

OliveMalay · 23/02/2011 11:02

Have you considered Elsie as a nickname for Elisabeth?

diddl · 23/02/2011 09:58

Like Elspeth but nn Elsie-why?

Two different names imo.

Inertia · 23/02/2011 08:50

Love Elsie, less sure about Elspeth.

QuickLookBusy · 22/02/2011 21:45

Love Elsie.

privategodfrey · 22/02/2011 21:38

I like Elspeth but not too keen on Elsie. I'm old enough to remember Elsie Tanner on Corrie so it will always conjour up her image.

Ellie as a shortened version is sweet though

moodymama · 22/02/2011 21:09

Love them both.

BelligerentGhoul · 22/02/2011 21:08

I like Elspeth but dislike Elsie.

weegiemum · 22/02/2011 21:07

One of the most amazing people I have ever met is Elspeth - she's an obstetrician working in a remote part of west Asia saving women and babies lives on a regular, probably daily basis.

I love the name. I'd not bother with a nn, just use Elspeth.
