What do we think of Hallie/Halle?

I was all set on Millie, but a friend has just suggested a name we had on our original list, and I now quite like this again.

Any thoughts on the name and spelling would be appreciated. They both have different meanings.

Millie could also be short for Camilla

plonker · 13/07/2010 21:42

I don't like Halle/Hallie at all. I prefer Ali or Holly ...

Millie is lovely though

I don't think it needs a longer version but if you do, you could use Millicent, Mildred (ewww), Amelia, Amelie or Emily.

I think it's perfectly lovely on its own though

alfiemama · 13/07/2010 20:32

Thanks Hedwig, still quite a while 16 weeks. But I have always chosen names and called them that throughout so seem weird not doing the same with this one.

Adair no probs at all. I know Halle is a name in its own right, actually Hallie is also and not short for anything. I know Halle means Heroine, but Hallie means something else, so depends on which spelling you use.
We had Halle and Hattie on original list (very long first list) but when I found out I was having a girl, forgot about it, then my friend said she had a name she liked and I was the same as you, starting thinking all day about it.

(Sorry, before someone links that google-it-yourself page , I did google it but wondered what the OP had found...)

Hedwig3 · 13/07/2010 19:57

You are not a pain, you just want to get it right!

I think you are at the point where you will know what feels right when the time comes, don't worry.

How much longer now?

Adair · 13/07/2010 19:57

Wow, I love Hallie/Halle. What does it mean? What is it short for? Been thinking about the name all day.

Is def on the list now for dc3, thank you . Been thinking about the name all day - i'd love Mahalia with nn Hallie... dh not keen on Mahalia (boo).

Amelie, Emily, Milly, Annie all sweet.

alfiemama · 13/07/2010 19:43

Thanks Hedwig. I know I am a complete pain.
Going to go for Amilie, Emily or Milly Rose, just not sure which

I think Milly is lovely on its own and fine in adulthood.

Is Emily really that popular? I only know 2 and I teach.

alfiemama · 13/07/2010 16:38

Thanks Kathleen. I'm just not as keen on Annie (sorry to anyone who has an Annie) on its own, but agree I think its sweet all together. Maybe I would get past that. When we named Alfie, said I would never ever call him Alf, use it all the time now

ReasonableDoubt · 13/07/2010 16:35

Halle is nice but completely associated with Halle Berry for me (not that that's necessarily a bad thing)

Annie is lovely.

Kathleen123 · 13/07/2010 16:20

Alfie is right - Annie Rose is a sweet name.

alfiemama · 13/07/2010 13:38

Thanks Hedwig. Would you not have Milly as a nn though. Just thinking for when she is older. Hubby says Emily but we will call her Milly, then he gets what he wants (Emily) and I get Milly. Only prob is I think Emily is very popular.

I know I'm a pain in the ....

Also when I told Alfie last night we were going to call her Halle Rose, he was so excited thought I'd said Annie-Rose, so looks like that one is back on the table

Milly

I don't like Millicent even though DH does, as I always hear Millitant!

alfiemama · 13/07/2010 13:25

My slight problem now, is I have been calling bump Millie for a week to try it out and now feels odd anything else.

What could Millie be short for? Looking for something different.

I like it but I would personally spell it Hallie as I wouldn't be 100% sure how to pronounce Halle...(Hall-ee or Hal)

Greensleeves · 13/07/2010 10:25

Halle Faye is nice

Halle Fleur
Halle Jane
Halle Joy
Halle Corinne
Halle Maude

Hedwig3 · 13/07/2010 10:16

Definitely Halle

Hallie just looks like you didn't know how to spell it to me.

Thanks Pixie. Unfortunately my little ones hate with a passion Mama Mirabel, so no way would they let me have that one .

Just worry Deeply about having to keep correcting the pronunciation of Halle, hence why I thought of Hallie. But maybe I should just go for Halle.

Halle is gorgeous, much nicer than the ubiquitous Millie and a nicer spelling than Hailey/Hallie/Holly.

alfiemama · 12/07/2010 17:35

I know Fimbo, its so hard to find a middle name that flows as well as Rose though. May try Primrose just to be a tad different.

Hallie Primrose

or Hallie Sofia
Hallie Eve
Hallie Fern
Hallie Faye

Fimbo · 12/07/2010 17:22

I like Louise as a middle name. You have chosen an underused name, Rose is pretty popular as a middle name these days but then I guess it is probably the Louise of the 70's!

winkle2 · 12/07/2010 17:08

I would think you had named her after Halle Berry

alfiemama · 12/07/2010 16:21

I suppose its not for everyone, but I love it so much, I'm going to go for it.
Hallie Rose (unless I can come up with a better middle name).

Thanks everyone
