33 weeks and no idea on girl's name whatsoever!

I'm 33 weeks now, and we don't know the sex of the baby. We are all set on the boys name (have picked 4 names as a short list then will decide when he's born), but we have no idea at all for girl's names.

Am I the only one out there that is getting close to the due date and still does not have a clue on names?

I's love something unusual which doesn't try to hard or isn't pretentious. Where do I head for inspiration?

Spider, in honour of your aunts, what about Susie Angelica, or Susannah, which has a bit of both Susan and Angela.

I like Hugh. Prefer Hugo but Hughie is cute.

I have read your brief and it's a good set of criteria! So I suggest

Juliet for a girl and Marcus for a boy.

Not in the top 100, neither dated nor in vogue, classic but not a crusty one.

I love Greta and Eliza on your list. Your dh's list is a bit more traditional but still nice.

My DS is a Fergus. DD is Matilda. Others on the shortlist were:-

Hi gladiolibucks, its a lord of the rings name and we pronounce it 'a o win'. (Eowyn) She does get called amy a lot until people are put right but there are no other eowyns in her class which was really important to me for all the children, and in the film she is a strong feisty character which were the characteristics i wanted and which she does share.

We had a looong list of names for our DD, and when she popped out, none of them fit. She was nameless for 2 weeks while we figured it out.

We called her martha in the end, and it's perfect! I'm sure you will find the right name.

CapitalText I love Iona, as does my husband, but unfortunately it's an old men's drinking club where all my family live, so unfortunately we can't go for that.

Seeker- I love Edith (although hadn't thought of the pronunciation issues before!) althoug my husband's not keen.

Somke real lovely names there though ladies, certainly food for thought! xx

I really liked Esme until I met a really whiney one about a month ago. Slightly put me off. Also another name I thought was quite unusual a friend of mines ghastly ex dh calls his dd as a nickname.

I am so fickle and so sad to be so influenced

My two favourite unusual girls names aat the moment are Edith and Clemency.

Slightly concerned about Edith if you live in Kent or if there is a tendency to lisp in you family - if I had been called it I would have called myself Edis until I was about 10, and in ds's school an Edith would be Ediff. But that aside, I think it's lovely.

Uhrm, 5 weeks to go and all change on all the name front - incidentally is probably the same for everything as we don't know where any of the baby gear is - am hoping it is just the dc2 factor and being more relaxed. Well fingers crossed that is the case anyway!

Hi - I really loved Sadie for a little girl. Others we had picked out if we'd had a girl were, Megan, LIly and Anna. However I've really found with groups that me and my little one go to (9 months old now) there's a lot of little girls with names beginning with L - in one group there's Lily, Laura, Laila, Lyla and Lola! Must say tho - reading the thread I absolutely love the name Hazel. Timeless. Tough decision tho!

I love Eliza! Both wonderfully old fashioned, but really modern feeling as well.

The only baby names book I liked was the Brilliant Book of Baby Names, terrible cover (baby with sunglasses and feather boa FGS) but really worth a look.

I love unusual names and so does dh. My dd1 is called eowyn frances which really suits her, and my dd2 is Aurelia louise. I think dd have so many pretty names that its difficult to choose where as my son was harder to come up with. dh liked kingdom (?) and Gaylan (?) for example we settled on Arian Frederick which really suits him. AZlthough people find it hard to pronounce them but no one in their class shares it. good luck

Are you anti themes? I think another nature name would be nice, plants, weather, waterways, gems etc.

What about favourite writers or characters from books/films?

Its tricky isn't it. If its any help our DD is Hazel - suits her perfectly. Gentle and girly fluffy.

Eek - now anyone in real life will know who I am - there arn't too many Hazels around with little sister Madeleine's. Hi anyone who knows me.

I love all four of the names on your DH list. I love the name Chloe too (my best friends daughter is called Chloe).
