Sasha short for Alexander

We've just had a darling baby boy, whom we have named Alexander Francis Paul. We love his names and they suit him, but Alexander seems a bit much for an every day name for a baby. He also doesn't much look like an Alex at the moment, though he might one day.

We've been thinking of calling him Sasha for short, as the Russians do (my BIL is Russian), and it really suits him (plus being slightly glamorous in a baby-of-mystery way ) However, I've been wondering how many people in the UK think that Sasha is a girl's name.

Given that he will have the pick of multiple nicknames as well as his full name to choose from when he goes to school (so can avoid the teasing problem), can we get away with calling a baby boy Sasha?

It's a gorgeous name for a boy - totally think you should go for it.

It was on my short list, but I would have spelt it Sacha - no idea if that is more correct but for use as a girl's name have only ever seen the Sasha spelling.

If you decide against it I also think Xander is a lovely name and how cool to have the first initial X!

God I love Sasha. Russian student though. wonder whether others find it as attractive.

My dd has a little friend at school called Sasha. He is from Ukraine and I think his name is actually Alexander. I really like it, it suits him down to the ground.
