To think that freebleeding is a bit [envy]

I have just heard of freebleeding on here whereby no sanitary protection is used . I admit that i am open to most things but this The practicalities of it must be enormous you would never leave home. I know that it would not be for me as my periods are quite heavy, even with big sanitary pads I manage to leak over my trousers, on my legs. Once when i was out i leaked through my jeans, as i got off the bus i realised must have been on the seat aswell, imagine no sanitary protection.

How does someone manage outside the house where there is limited washing facilities, must be really uncomfortable and and messy. I will probably get flamed for my views but i am prepared and armed with my hard hat. I would try reusuable sanitary protection for later on in my period but no protection

Lady animals don't seem to bleed everywhere when they come into season though, do they?

Or do they?

I've never owened a female dog so actually don't know. Do free bleeding hounds make a mess?

pigletmania · 04/04/2010 22:10

Egggh Bertie would not liked to be liked by those dogs. My exSIL used to empty her leftovers on the carpet and the dogs would eat them

Reading this post reminded me of my mum and her 4 sisters. They all grew up on a farm and they all milked the cows, made butter and killed pigs for bacon. My favourite auntie always used to tell her father that she had her period, and so got out of dairy and pig sticking duties as he believed she would turn the food foul!

This was in the early 1950s!

My mum has still not quite forgiven her.

BertieBotts · 04/04/2010 22:00

Oh god I have no idea, I hid that one because the title kept making me feel sick.

Valpollicella · 04/04/2010 22:00

Nothing really constructive to add, except to say I LOL'd at 'free-snotting'

Each to their own...but there is No Way in Hell I would ever be able to freebleed (horrible term). Commuting, heavy flow, desk job...I'd be leaving my own imprints over London for one week of the month. Don't think TfL or my employers would be too hapy about that.

And our rented flat has cream carpets. Can't afford to get them cleaned every month...

pigletmania · 04/04/2010 21:55

Surely this thread is not as bad as one recently on AIBU about dogs eating cats sick , and dogs eating poo and various niceties like that.

No I dont envy freebleeding, it was meant to be the green faced sign that i wanted, did not realise you cannot put pictures in the title

this whole thread reminds me of occasion years ago in season dog dripping all over sofas that we were meant to sit on. yuck

ok so we all have accidents but i think its just normal to most of us to plug it up so find the whole idea of letting it flow a bit gross.

cant say i'm going to google freebleeding, i can use my imagination, but i am going to find out about these mooncups. never heard of them before but i don't suppose i'll try them. i gather they go up and i was never keen on tampons but am fascinated

can't wait for bump to be born as i plan to go on that jab in the bum. this stopped all periods when i was on it last.

luciemule · 04/04/2010 21:37

I read also that in previous centuries, mentruation wouldn't have lasted for as long or been as heavy with less hormones in their food, medicines etc and often women were very malnourished and so many had no or very light periods. Women had more babies and bf for longer and so wouldn't have had periods as often. Bliss!

Llewella · 04/04/2010 21:31

what an amazing, light and amusing thread - made me giggle. have just come off the G+T pages where lots of people seem a little uptight, this is so refreshing - though absolutely not for me

luciemule · 04/04/2010 21:30

Eric, gravity definitely reduces flow during the night if you sleep on your side.

luciemule · 04/04/2010 21:28

I didn't say I thought it was true; just said I'd read an American article. I guess it'd be good if you were swimming in a river or a deserted bit of sea but yes, I too would bleed in the water, as I do in the bath and getting out etc. I was just relaying info .
Actually, have just googled freebleeding and found loads of info about women in Germany and Europe and the US in the 1700s. One bit said that in factories in england, there would be straw on the floor to absorb menstrual fluids. Another said that mothers got upset when thier daughters were offered santiary towels because it would mean that the pads would hide their fertility (smells/flow) and were worried that they wouldn't find a DH! Anyway - all very interesting.

BertieBotts · 04/04/2010 21:25

Eric, it's something to do with pressure I think.

EricNorthmansmistress · 04/04/2010 21:20

How can you stop bleeding in the water? That is such a silly myth. How does your uterine lining know to defy gravity and stop exiting your vagina, just because you get in some water?

I bleed in the bath if I'm at the heavier part of my period, not at the lighter. Nothing to do with being in water or not.

BertieBotts · 04/04/2010 21:11

Yes I have heard that about being in water - however I have always found that as soon as I step out of the bath I get blood all down my legs which would not be attractive in a swimming costume! Also have had little red dragons in the bath on heavy days.

Mooncupflowethover · 04/04/2010 21:03

luciemule...how come I bleed in the bath then?

MisSalLaneous · 04/04/2010 20:59

luciemule, my PE teacher at school said the same, and whilst I can believe that for the part that you're actually in the water, what happens once you get out and walk to the changing rooms?? I can see something going majorly wrong at the steps...

lou031205 · 04/04/2010 20:53

I am dreading my first period after DD3 (11 months). I had a period in February 2005, (then DD1), then 3 in 2006 (then DD2), then no more yet....stopped feeding DD3 last month so it must be just around the corner

luciemule · 04/04/2010 20:51

I didn't know people nowadays in western society freebled but I'm intrigued to learn more (just out of interest - not to freebleed myself!). However, a few weeks ago, I did read an Amercian article about being able to swim without any santiary protection because the body stops bleeding when in water. Sounds great but not so sure it would completely - imagine if you were in your local pool and started leaving a trail!

ant3nna · 04/04/2010 20:41

TheMysticMasseuse, I used to read that blog back in the day. When she says that her boyfriend folded pads for his mum she means that he helped her make the cloth pads she sold. Which is a little less strange

SpeedyGonzalez · 04/04/2010 20:34

Rofl at catflap jobs!

allegrageller · 04/04/2010 20:34

ah freeshitting, ds2 is great at that. Blog idea?

BuckBuckMcFate · 04/04/2010 20:28

I read free-bled as freeble-d

posieparker · 04/04/2010 20:27

OBM...you owe me a keyboard as it's covered in red wine that I have just spat out laughing!

TheMysticMasseuse · 04/04/2010 20:27

i have read a bit of the blog

her dp used to fold reusable sanitary pads for his mum

weird oedipal stuff going on there

still, glad they found each other!

(ps i like thed red tent idea of doing nothing much for a few days but straw... a bit itchy, non?)
