Poking holes in condoms!

condomgate · 20/10/2026 11:43

Just to make it absolutely clear, this isn’t about DH and I.

My friend is 3 months pregnant, her husband is in shock because they were using condoms every time and not one split.

She’s just admitted to me that she used a pin to poke holes in them. Now call me naive but one, I thought that a tiny pin hole would not be able to get somebody pregnant and also I think this is a crime? I’m disgusted with her and I did tell her that.

Regular poster, name changed.

DH and I are good friends with her and her DH and I just don’t feel okay about this. I feel like she’s done something so wrong that I want to avoid them for as long as possible.

What size do you think sperms are? Confused

I think OP is envisaging a sprouted mung bean!

condomgate · 20/10/2026 14:53

He is my friend and more so DH’s, if I tell DH, he will without a doubt tell him and I don’t want us to be responsible for breaking up a family with 3 kids and one on the way. I know he’s not happy about the 4th as he’s told DH this was never the plan and they will have to sell up and move as their autistic DS needs his own room and they are in a 3 bed with the other two sharing and won’t fit a 3rd in when the time comes.

I’m going to keep my distance and she’s obviously not going to tell her DH why I’m being off with her as then she’ll have to tell the truth or he’ll ask me and I won’t lie to him.

Stringing women along is so cruel and irresponsible that I just don’t care. I know SO many men who have done this. Who now happily have the families they ‘weren’t sure if they wanted’ with a younger woman while his ex is 45 and childless not by choice.

Has it touched a nerve? Were you strung along? Because I cannot think of any other reason for such appalling comments.

allthingsinmoderation · 20/10/2026 14:46

I think deceit in a relationship never bodes well......
40-50 million sperm per ejaculate means if a few hundred thousand seep out the pin prick pregnancy may happen.
This could possibly be considered sex by deception (if he was deceived) this invalidates consent.
The case of Andrew Lewis in 2014,he was sentenced to 4 yrs imprisonment for poking a hole in a condom,as it invalidated consent. He eventualy pleaded guilty to rape. In germany in 2022 a woman was found guilty of sexual assault and was convicted of sexual assault.
So, potentially your friend has admitted to a criminal offence .....

So they’re not wrong. Sexual assault is not always rape. Rape has a very specific definition which is penetration by a penis. So yes it is abhorrent, and if able to be proved illegal, but it’s not rape.

Except it is. It is classed as rape. Even if a woman does it to a man,

Read the information in that link I posted!

TheMimsy · 20/10/2026 14:45

I honestly feel this is akin to sexual abuse and onto as far to call this rape but Jesus it’s awful. She knows she’s in the wrong as she’s not exactly making it public. She knows it’s not acceptable. It was done maliciously without his consent and on purpose to become pregnant against his will.

Shoe on the other foot - if a man purposely tampered with a women’s birth control plan to get her pregnant they would be slated on here.

I could never look at her the same and it would be a relationship/friendship ender for me.

Youre taking the piss, right?

I'm pretty sure @DebbieSavage is a troll. They've been on other threads saying stupid stuff, and I'm not the first to accuse them of being a troll.

Cicchetti · 20/10/2026 14:44

I would not want to be friends with anyone who would do that. Of course it's a total violation of trust for anyone, man or woman, to interfere with contraception.

I also agree that it's best to stay well clear of the situation under the circumstances. It's likely to get messy, and you don't need any dirt to be flung onto you.

You just put the pin through the foil. Unless he inspects every pack before opening with a magnifying glass, it isn't going to be noticeable. Did you never watch anything during the ones, saw this shtick on some many films/snap operas?

It would feel different. You would be able to tell the packet wasn't air tight

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/10/2026 14:42

Is he not also your friend? Why doesn’t he deserve to know?

ThreeplusI · 20/10/2026 14:41

2BarbieOrNot2Barbie · 20/10/2026 11:58

I’ve always wondered how that works in practice. Surely most people just take them out of the wrapper just before use. When would you have time to get a pin out? Think my partner would notice if I stopped everything to get a condom, open it in the bathroom, rummaged around for a pin and then poked holes in it before coming back to the bedroom?

Edited for a typo

housethatbuiltme · 20/10/2026 14:41

Condoms have a perfect use clinical test failure of 2% and a real world use failure of nearly 20%.

That means if you use condoms you still have the risk of getting knocked up for 1 out of every 6 shags or so and even with absolute perfect use 1 out of every 50 shags.

People get knocked up while using condoms all the time, its a great std barrier for a lot of infections but not the best birth control.

I genuinely think this is clickbait though, poking holes in condoms is urban legend level usually thrown around by men who don't want to take responsibility or the women that want to baby those men.

Its like poking a hole in a balloon, go ahead and try it, very few people can do it without causing critical failure (which is obvious when it happens) and I'm not talking party tricks like putting sellotape on to reinforce it. Even those who are trained to be with needles and have access to precision equipment (like some medical staff) you cannot just do it blind with a random pin through an unopened packet and leave no obvious marks.

squarecrow · 20/10/2026 13:14

They’re supposed to be 98% effective “with perfect use”. My DH and I have used condoms for 15 years. We have never had an accident and if we did I would use the morning after pill. I don’t think it’s always women poking holes in things, but they’re supposed to be very effective if used properly so it does call into question how this 15% of “accidents” are happening. Even if they are genuine accidents you could argue that it’s laziness/ignoring the rules on the part of the users.

I can assure you that people can fall pregnant even when using a condom when there is no laziness or user error involved. Ffs. Get off your high horse. Classic case of not understanding that sometimes people have experiences which differ from your own 🙄

Edited to add : In another episode of ‘not everyone has mirroring experiences in life’, when the condom fails, it is also possible to fall pregnant even when you take the MAP exactly as directed.

It’s not rape. That has a very specific definition. Nobody had a penis inserted into them against their will.

Wrong.

It is classed a sexual assault to poke holes in a condom and risk pregnancy against someone’s will, and yes, some courts will class it as rape.

Meh.

Do they have kids? What’s the situation?

Don’t blame her if he’s strung her along for years or similar

Disgusting comment. Regardless of any context.

Who does she think she is to just stomp all over his dreams like that?

There. I have amended this for you.

Why do you think her behaviour is OK? It isn't. Not at all.

They have three children already, one of whom has extra needs.

Nottodaybob · 20/10/2026 14:39

I'm shocked at some the replies!

Completely unacceptable. I'm not sure I could be friends with someone like that.

It’s not rape. That has a very specific definition. Nobody had a penis inserted into them against their will.

It should, however, be classified as a serious sexual assault and it a disgusting thing to do to the unwilling parent and the poor child who will be born not having been wanted by both parents.

OP - I don’t think I could continue to be friends with someone who had done this. Every time I saw that child I would feel sad. Especially as it also sounds like the family have enough on their plate already with three children, one of whom has significant disabilities, and parents who clearly have a dysfunctional and abusive relationship. This doesn’t bode well for the future for this child and the existing three. 😔

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 20/10/2026 11:56

Friend's DS split up with his gf partly because she wanted children and he didn't. They continued as FWB, and of course she became pregnant (and very happy). He took legal advice on his situation which confirmed he'd been tricked but legally he is financially responsible until the child is 18 (and he's paying his due).
I agree OP - it's a shitty thing for either a man or a woman to do in any circumstances frankly.

That pregnancy was almost entirely predictable sadly.

I cannot be the only person who has met a guy who will only use the condom he carried ?

Whilst I get the logic, I think I’d be a) instantly put off that he didn’t trust me to that extent, if he thought I might be damaging condoms then what on earth are we doing having sex; and b) I’d then worry if the instance to use his meant he had damaged them (I was stealthed many years ago)

TheLastSilverSaint · 20/10/2026 14:34

I don't give a shit if he's been 'stringing her along'. It's fucking disgusting and unforgivable to deliberately get pregnant and pretend it's an accident. Genuinely appalling and there is zero excuse for it.

notanothernamesurely · 20/10/2026 14:34

God that’s awful. I think I’d have to step back from the friendship completely.
