Supermarket snitching

Thegoldenoriole · Today 15:44

I’m sitting in the car in the supermarket while DH has taken the kids in. There were no family spaces left so we are parked opposite, NBD.

I’m supposed to be doing work but I’ve been distracted by the fancy sports car which has just pulled in opposite (into a now vacant family space) and thr smartly dressed man who has stepped out and walked into the shop, notably lacking in children.

I’m sorely tempted to write a note “no kids!” stick it to his windshield and hide behind my dashboard to see his reaction when he comes back. But then also v aware I should mind my own business, people have been stabbed for less yada yada.

What would you do (or like to do if you were more brave!)

YABU: get nose back into work.
YANBU: write the note!

As a new parent this makes me furious. After three occasions where I have (politely) pointed out to people that they’re in a parent and child space and had three aggressive reactions I have now had to actively tell myself that I have to let it go.
There are some selfish fuckers out there but you can’t take on every one of them.
It does boil my blood when I can’t get a parent and child space and then have to try and squeeze the pushchair and my baby out of the car in a standard space but it’s not worth me going away from shopping trips upset every time because some asshole has told me to fuck off.

Passaggressfedup · Today 18:06

Where are you that shops are so busy just before 4pm when shops are closing in 15mbs/5mns? Sounds they are stopping close because they want to get there quickly before it closes.

It's not like it's peak time.

You have no idea 😩😅

I think we have a fair idea.

No but he needed to get in and out sharpish, plus I might have had to take him in to change him!!

So that’s ok then, because your DH needed to rush in sharpish!

so anyone who needs to dash in can use the spaces then?

HopHopAndHopAgain · Today 18:00

malloryknox123 · Today 17:06

no I haven’t. I had a child with me, and I may have needed to get out. They’re called family spaces.

i guess you would’ve written a note

Absolute twaddle. Your DH was dashing in.

You were 100% misusing the space!

Megifer · Today 17:23

Sounds like you didnt need the space tbf op.

Anyway, I imagine his reaction would be similar to mine - take note off, put in pocket, drive out of my nice giant space and go home.

Nope, never had the time to leave a note. You said child did not get out, therefore you did not need to use that space.
It's quite simple really 🙄

Notasbigasithink · Today 17:19

Pisses me right off when I can't find a patent child space and theyre all taken up by non parents/people with children, however, I don't fancy getting my car keyed, having abuse hurled at me in front of my child or worse for being a busy body! They're not a legal entitlement, they are an acknowledgement from the carpark owners that people with children benefit from larger spaces and provide them at good will.
I do however secretly hope that their cars will get a child slam their door open into them, reversed into by a distracted mother or scratched by a toy from an over enthusiastic toddler to teach them a lesson!

malloryknox123 · Today 17:06

Weeellokthen · Today 16:57

😂that's not what parent & child space is for. More room to get baby car seat/buggie out. Child wasn't even getting out so you have misused the space.

Back to work unless you enjoy being a narc. I was once sat in the back of our car holding my crying distraught grandson while my DH dashed into the supermarket to get him a new pair of trousers.

up came some self righteous woman taking photos of our licence plate under the mistaken impression DH was a single man having not clocked us. She soon scuttled off when I stuck my head through the window and asked what she was doing

We do have a baby and a toddler. That’s not really my issue though, pre-kids I still would never have parked in a family space.

Another car has just done the same thing, also a single man, this time a big Audi SUV. I never see women or people driving old bangers do it.

I did. I spoke to her and got my car keyed for my trouble. I won't ever do it again. I just try to hold it in and silently judge.

YABVU. If I had my way I'd get rid of the parent and child spaces altogether, people are so precious about them.

Strong agree.

boxofshite · Today 16:48

I parked in a parent and child space and was reprimanded by someone else. The nursery is next to the supermarket….

redskyAtNigh · Today 16:42

If it's no big deal that you're not got a family space, then it's surely no big deal who parks in them?

You didn’t need the family space if it was only your husband getting out the car!!

Leave it alone.
Why do people go looking for trouble.

Putting a note on someone's windscreen and then hiding isn't snitching.

Yep, he's got a car too big for him to know how to park it. Plonker

Kingdomofsleep · Today 15:57

Yanbu for being annoyed by this, I once told a man off for taking a family space when he had no kids with him.

In hindsight I should have said "not very good at parking in a narrow space are we? You can get extra lessons for that".

I know many mumsnetters will say "get a life" etc but they are quite possibly men who can't park either.

Smartly dressed, and driving a fancy car? Work is not so interesting I take it!

Unless you have a baby and pram surely your kids can get out a normal space?
