To think the French students are out of control?

Demonstrating against large class sizes is one thing.

Smashing up shop windows and looting goods is another.

Idiots. They are 14/15 and when they are arrested the French authorities will come down on them and their criminal records will stay with them forever. Where are the parents in all of this?

Woukd this happen in the UK?

I don’t know if people are arsonists and looters because of some noble cause. What principle is behind someone going on the rob for Jordans, jewellery etc.?

I think you misunderstood my comment and the post I responded to.

Mass migration has made France an amazing country and one that people the world over love to visit. I genuinely don't see what you are seeing with these protests, if anything they are a model example of multiculturalism because I see people of all ethnicities coming together to fight for their right to a decent education.

A lot of the destruction can be attributed to the far right who seem to be capitalising on genuine resentment in order to make the left look bad. That's what I'm hearing from people I know who are French.

Yep. These poor kids just need some ping-pong tables and after school clubs and they'd stop rioting.

I think individuals should take ownership for their actions - if they use violence to achieve their aims, then the state should be allowed to respond in kind in order to protect life and property - as in the case of France, now.

The initial use of violence except for self-defence is otherwise never acceptable.

It’s therefore incumbent on all of us to call out the behaviour of the thuggish element in France.

Fair enough. But, more often than not, people have had to protest violently for rights. Workers rights, democratic rights, female rights, independence rights and so on. They are rarely "given" through noblesse oblige.

Can we please be very clear. The students demonstrating have nothing to do with the violences. Their grievances are legitimate. The opportunists that use violence to steal and break are not. The violence used by the police on some unauthorised yet peaceful marches is also not.

lets NOT confuse the movement with opportunists.

I have noticed an increase in churches mysteriously burning down and grave yards being destroyed.
It is going to spread. Europe is a tinderbox. Government officials have ignored mass immigration and stretched services.

Yep, no mosquees set on fire..

Explain the logic to me. They are complaining that there aren’t enough resources so they burn everything to the ground which requires capital to replace it which means even less resources for them.

The majority of protesters are not violent. The majority of those who are violent are either in vocational training or not students at all- just thugs that want to get some outlet for their violence.

Are they going to bring in the army?

Nah, Macron is talking some sense into them now.

They will be like little agneaux from now on.

It’s not still going on is it?

BluebadgeCF · Today 19:51

YABVU to think it’s French students looting and not other groups taking advantage of the situation

I still can't get that image of the fireman completely ablaze as a bunch of gormless goons look on in utter rapture out of my head.

Real Lord of the Flies moment that's for sure.

France.

Somehow I don't think it is "students" vandalising synagogues, robbing, stripping and humiliating elderly French couples and burning down peoples livelihoods and historic buildings. France looks more like a war zone right now.

Some are, some aren’t. What unifies them - apart from the straight-out looters just looking for some box fresh trainers - is that they’re all violent left-wingers.

This may or may not be true, but rumours that Jewish owned businesses were targeted in Marseilles.

It wasn’t a joke. I saw an X post saying they were marching towards it.

It’ll be fine. The queues are horrendous. Plenty of time to spirit the Mona Lisa away.

Omg. People actually still believe this 💀

OonaStubbs · Today 19:38

They need to bring back the Guillotine. The woman whose store was ransacked can sit there knitting whilst the perpetrators get their just desserts.

Too soon.

The French have a long history of riots, demo’s etc, it’s in their dna. The earliest student riots were in 13th century Paris (1229) & French riots have continued, more often than you might realise, over 100s of years (including 1789) as a way for the people to show their dissatisfaction. Yes they can get volatile but I think there is now an element of rent a mob paid for & planted by those wishing to incite more violence for their own reasons - to destabilise govt., push the ‘immigrant’ narrative etc. And this isn’t just happening in France.

See, whats the point in my satirical posts when you can get the real thing straight out of the horses mouth ☝️

thefourthbeatle · Today 19:28

"French students"🤔. The majority of the rioters are African men in their twenties and thirties.
