Hairdresser states they charge an hourly rate but never stick to it

I have been going to the same hairdresser for extensions for five years now.

They state everywhere on their website, Facebook, price lists, app etc etc that hair extension move ups are charged at an hourly rate. It’s supposed to be £60 an hour for the woman I see - £150 for the 2.5 hours it’s supposed to take for the move up.

I sat down at 9:25 this morning. I was out of the chair by 10:50. It should’ve only been £90. I was charged £150 by the app they use for appointments.

AIBU to challenge this? I don’t mind paying for what I get, but this is a bit insane

I think £90 for a wash, dry, trim and hair extension refit sounds like amazing value. I’m in the south east and where I am, it’s around £75 for a cut and blow dry in an average (ie non-fancy) salon with a mid-level person.

It’s a strange system to charge by the hour because it doesn’t incentivise efficiency! I’d much rather the same job done in 1.5 hours than sit there needlessly for 2.5 hours!

I think it’s a ridiculous price tbh, but why would you keep going there, for 5 years, if you’re not happy?

Go elsewhere! Simples

That’s quite a lot for a hair extension refit only. I pay £160 with a colour and trim and I’ve got three rows and about ten tapes in the top so lots! Whereabouts in the country are you? I’d probably say you should challenge it if they say it’s an hourly rate

Get it washed, dried and trimmed as well but to be honest I consider it part of the refit service! Sometimes she puts a colour mask on it but not often. I’m down in the south. I’ve got beads so I don’t know if that makes a difference?

I’m guessing they have to book the time it could take and yours was quicker today. But they reserve that time for you so they are unable to book more work in. If it always takes less time I would ask about it.

I don’t think I’ve ever had one take two and a half hours
