Ultimate Betrayal

Been bugging me for a while so here we go.

My wife had her graduation this summer, was so proud of her and all the work she put in. I paid for her gown and graduation photos (solo photo and 1 family photo).

because she’s picked an early morning slot - with travel and the kids it was going to be tight us all making it. So we agreed if me and kids missed pre ceremony photos (wife was driving with parents and siblings) we’d take family photos after the ceremony. To get there on time me and kids needed to set off at 08:00 and with kids being very young the intention was never for us to go into ceremony with it being 90 mins. They’d disrupt the whole thing.

well you guess it we didn’t make it out until after 9, then with driving around for ages looking for parking we just arrived at the end of the ceremony in time to take family photos after.

this was a disaster kids were hungry and in tears in all the photos not looking forward the lot.

fast forward to a few days later and we get to see the photos to choose which ones to order. And the wife has taken beautiful happy photos with her parents and siblings prior to me and kids arriving.

I feel totally betrayed

me and kids were only there for 15 mins despite us being stuck in the car for 2.5 hrs to take photos.

we’ve obviously argued and part of me feels guilty for putting a stain on her big day but the other half thinks why would you take photos without us knowing you that only one family photo could be chosen to purchase.

think it hurts more that’s without us shes got a lovely family photos and with me and the kids she’s got a very messed up unhappy photos.

YABU - she never intended to buy photos without us knowing you and kids and was just indulging herself.

YANBU- yeah she stabbed you in the heart, back and everywhere else. She shouldn’t have taken the photo even if the intention was never to buy.

Fucking hell OP, you sound completely unhinged.

Muffsies · 16/10/2026 22:07

That's not betrayal, it's just really bad luck. Life works out like that sometimes; you try really hard and go through absolute shit to try and do a good thing with all the best reasons... and it turns to crap. It's not anyone's fault.

Yeah it sucks, and you're allowed to be pissed off, but not at her, not at anyone. Try not to be one of those dads who always wants to be the hero of the day, because you're going to find that most of your best laid plans with little kids often end in disappointment, not treasured memories and gratification.

Trottersup · 16/10/2026 22:06

So basically you couldn't manage getting the children fed and there in time, on a really important day for your wife, and that's somehow her fault? I'd say you are 100% unreasonable and you might actually need to learn some parenting and time management skills.

EppingIsFun · 16/10/2026 22:06

Ragebait

Fiftyandme · 16/10/2026 22:05

Really? You feel ‘betrayed’?

You couldn’t manage to get the kids sorted and out of the door with decent snacks for the car so they wouldn’t be hangry etc but you feel betrayed?

ThaliaKeith2026 · 16/10/2026 22:05

Do you want this to be ok, OP? Do you want your wife’s graduation to be an amazing thing? I hope you do. I bet you do! The day didn’t go as you hoped. Things sometimes don’t and that can be frustrating and annoying, it can even hurt. But if you want this to be ok, let the photos go and concentrate on what’s really important here.

You really couldn't get your kids up and out by 8 on her special day? Way to make it all about you. How do you cope with the school / nursery run?

I’ve got 4 kids that were up by 7. They’ve been unwell so yes getting them ready and out took a lot longer than just getting them ready for nursery.

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · 16/10/2026 22:04

I don’t agree how people are acting towards you on this thread op but I agree with the gist of their message- why shouldn’t she have had a picture with her family first? Why couldn’t ye make it on time? (I get up daily at 6.30 to ensure three children get to a minders/ school and I get to work). Life and kids suck like that, ye should have been laughing about how unlucky it all was, not arguing. Talk to her and say sorry- marriage is about making the other person happy and compromising

You can’t have that many guests at a graduation ceremony anyway . Normally limited to two .

and you sound a bit pathetic for not even being able to get there on time ! I think she knew not to waste the invitation and photos on you !

Exactly which is why we agreed I would stay with kids while her parents go in and watch the ceremony.

You’re upset that things didn’t go as you hoped and that’s understandable. But I think it’s really important to focus on what matters here. Your wife graduated! That’s amazing. The photos are just a minuscule part of that. You must be really proud of her .

We had never intended to go into the ceremony but the schedule my kids are very young - think preschool and nursery age. In terms of being late I was getting them ready and fed so we could leave. Was literally up at 6 to get ready and everything packed for the day on my own while my wife set off.

in terms of us missing pre ceremony photos I’d driven around to 6 different car parks for over and hour and they were all full. Had to park miles away and get a taxi just to make it on time. When we did arrive the security wouldn’t let me bring outside food in for the kids so they were hungry.

not like any of it was on purpose but knowing that if she wanted pictures with me and the kids why take them without us. She could only chose one photo. Either with us in it - or without us.

there was no stream so no we couldn’t watch from outside either.

I have never heard of a photographer that refuses to sell copies of the photos they take.

kalokagathos · 16/10/2026 22:00

Are you for real? So self-obsessed! This day was never about you/ kids - just her! Why use such big words like “betrayed”. Nothing of the sort happened, what a manipulative thing to put in the description and also over-dramatic. Goodness me! Relax 🧘‍♂️

O00ps · 16/10/2026 21:59

I have no words. I'm speechless. At your behaviour, not your wife's

What on earth 😆

I think this must be a pisstake but just to indulge,
Maybe if you'd made the effort to get kids out on time, because obviously that is possible, then none of that would have been a problem

PearPeer · 16/10/2026 21:58

What did Andrew Tate say about it OP?

seahorsessky · 16/10/2026 21:58

It's wrong she prioritised them over you. No way would have driven with my parents/siblings instead of spouse and kids.

DozyCrow · 16/10/2026 21:58

If your kids are very young you'd have done better to have someone mind them for the day (your parents?) and gone on your own so you could join in the family photo. You were never going to get good photos of the little ones if they were hungry and restless after a long drive. You were setting yourself up for failure.

Calling this situation the "ultimate betrayal " is way OTT.

Oh, and yes, this.

InOverMyHead84 · 16/10/2026 21:57

This thread is entitled 'The Ultimate Betrayal,' but I'm reading about missing some photographs!?

Come on, I expected some infidelity at least!

PearPeer · 16/10/2026 21:57

I am not usually as cynical as other Mners. But this one I really think must be a wind-up. If it isn't, then I'll demonstrate my age by asking what the world is coming to.

Horrible language, especially towards someone you don’t even know. Reported.

HeadLikeAPotato · 16/10/2026 21:56

Oh dear Mufasa.

You fucked up by not managing the not at all huge job of getting there to cheer your wife's fantastic achievement.

Her family got there, celebrated her success and got in the picture.

You have let your wife down. Not the other way round you absolutely self centered narcissist
