Ultimate Betrayal

Been bugging me for a while so here we go.

My wife had her graduation this summer, was so proud of her and all the work she put in. I paid for her gown and graduation photos (solo photo and 1 family photo).

because she’s picked an early morning slot - with travel and the kids it was going to be tight us all making it. So we agreed if me and kids missed pre ceremony photos (wife was driving with parents and siblings) we’d take family photos after the ceremony. To get there on time me and kids needed to set off at 08:00 and with kids being very young the intention was never for us to go into ceremony with it being 90 mins. They’d disrupt the whole thing.

well you guess it we didn’t make it out until after 9, then with driving around for ages looking for parking we just arrived at the end of the ceremony in time to take family photos after.

this was a disaster kids were hungry and in tears in all the photos not looking forward the lot.

fast forward to a few days later and we get to see the photos to choose which ones to order. And the wife has taken beautiful happy photos with her parents and siblings prior to me and kids arriving.

I feel totally betrayed

me and kids were only there for 15 mins despite us being stuck in the car for 2.5 hrs to take photos.

we’ve obviously argued and part of me feels guilty for putting a stain on her big day but the other half thinks why would you take photos without us knowing you that only one family photo could be chosen to purchase.

think it hurts more that’s without us shes got a lovely family photos and with me and the kids she’s got a very messed up unhappy photos.

YABU - she never intended to buy photos without us knowing you and kids and was just indulging herself.

YANBU- yeah she stabbed you in the heart, back and everywhere else. She shouldn’t have taken the photo even if the intention was never to buy.

Guess who is in my graduation photos? Me, Me, Me. Only ME. Just ME.

AmnesiacDream · Yesterday 00:07

She had time to kill and posed for some photos with her parents. And you're likening it to stabbing you in the heart?

I get that fractious kids are a bit of a nightmare and put you on edge. But ruining your wife's big day over an imagined slight is poor behaviour and endangers your relationship with her.

FashionVixen · Yesterday 00:07

Are you quite well? The betrayal is that your wife took better photos with her folks and siblings than with you and your hungry and exhausted kids who you couldn’t be bothered to have there on time. Is that right? Your wife married a prince, didn’t she?

Notmycircusnotmyotter · Yesterday 00:06

I'm so grateful my husband is a functioning human who can get our kids somewhere on time and supports me

babyproblems · Yesterday 00:04

You are way too invested in your wife’s graduation. I didn’t even go to my own graduation!!! I’d never take kids to one. So bloody boring! Honestly you sound so emotional about something that is so mundane and not really anything to do with you.

I wouldn’t even have gone let alone with loads of kids. You should have booked a nice hotel and dinner and got grandparents to have the kids for a weekend and you & your wife celebrate her success together just the two of you. I honestly don’t understand why you’re so invested in her qualification. It’s quite bizarre! In guessing you’re American but even so

Start a new thread OP. Along the lines of
My husband had been studying for a degree while working nights. We have 4 children under 5 so it has involved a lot of juggling but I have picked up the slack, supported him and I'm proud of him.
Come graduation day, we wanted a family photo. I got the children there as agreed. It was a long journey and didn't go well but we made it for the second round of photos. One child was a bit sulky but the photos were taken.
My husband then chose to order the photos of him and his parents, not his wife and children despite us agreeing we would use the opportunity to get a photo of us together and my making the effort to get the kids there. It's made me feel unappreciated and like all the support I've given him over the years to allow him to study while working has been taken for granted. This is the second time I've been left out of a professional family photo opportunity and it's made me feel shit.

I don't get the drama about the photos when we can all these days take lovely photos on our phones.

ADHDDoomScroller · 16/10/2026 23:55

So you'd paid for photos but hadn't turned up, so your wife took a pic with her family. Would you have preferred to have paid for photos and not turned up.inntime and your wife didn't get any taken at all because she was waiting for you?

I completed my Masters (MBA) earlier this year after 5 years of bloody hard slog. Studying for hours in the evenings and weekends, working a full-time senior role and fulfilling my responsibilities as a High School Governor. I’ve had to organise my entire life around the academic calendar, have missed out on a number of big events and celebrations where they conflicted with submission deadlines and my DH has had to pick up the slack with cooking/our dogs etc on many a weekend/Monday evening when an assignment had to be finished.

With my graduation ceremony, I was undecided about whether to go to it, as my MBA was all online, with most of the cohort being international students located abroad, so I was unsure how many others would be there on the day from my course. I also didn’t want a big fuss made by my family over how many tickets/who gets a ticket etc. As it turned out, I’d already booked to be away on a 3-week holiday for the date the ceremony fell on, so I missed it anyway.

Regardless, if my husband had failed to even arrive on time and then, to add insult to injury, had the audacity to kick up a stink over some pictures and make the whole occasion about him, I’d not only be livid, I’d also feel badly let down.

A supportive partner lifts the other up and is their biggest cheerleader, especially for these types of major personal/professional achievements. Your wife’s graduation is her day, to recognise her hard work, dedication and success. It’s not about you.

Don’t be dulling the shine on her accomplishments by sulking over some crap photos.

Hydrangeblueeyes · 16/10/2026 23:49

Ultimate betrayal!? Get a grip. You are being very unreasonable. You have small children, this was your wifes big day and you have made it about yourself!

Anyahyacinth · 16/10/2026 23:49

What's this about booking slots OP...certain faculties graduate together in my experience ...you think your wife could pick the time?

This was her day and you sound like the runners husband who wanted her to hug the children before the race was over...utterly self centred and unable to take responsibility for your family whilst your wife had her moment...which you've ruined by being unpleasant

It's wrong she prioritised them over you. No way would have driven with my parents/siblings instead of spouse and kids.

She ibviiusky went with parents and siblings so that she didn't have tgmhe stress of gettibfmg small children ready. She wabted to be relaxed and looked after, instead of rushing around on her big day looking after her small kids.
Her husbandd had one job,and couldn't manage that!I don't know why he is so pissed off. Sbe is probably livid with him. Pathetic man

"this was a disaster kids were hungry and in tears in all the photos not looking forward the lot."

"my kids were fed and happy on arrival"

So which is it? The reversal of the sexes isn't the only thing that makes little sense here.

They were but it took a bloody hour of us going j to and out if different parking lots! So yeah they got fed once we got to the location but quickly and outside as we couldn’t take food inside

MyArtfulGreySloth · 16/10/2026 23:42

Good lord, do you make everything all about you? This has got to be a wind up. No one is this self unaware.

Mufasa1992 · 16/10/2026 23:42

PumpkinSeasonIsHere · 16/10/2026 23:36

Honestly if I were you I would ask for this reverse to be deleted and try expressing your feelings and situation in a new post.

You seem to think you’re proving something by reversing the sexes, but men and women are not the same.

There’s a lot but I wanted to look at this situation in isolation and get peoples thoughts. Which I have and will think about

You've got 4 kids who are all nursery/preschool age? 🤔

Two sets of twins? or Quadruplets?
One set in nursery and one set preschool.
And his wife managed to get a degree whilst dealing with the four of them.
😂

Mufasa1992 · 16/10/2026 23:39

Scout2016 · 16/10/2026 23:27

Yes, I think she did just take them for a photo and that was what had been agreed with her husband. Opportunity to get a nice family photo. Maybe not what you or I would do but that is what it seems they agreed.
Sounds like the last time she tried yo get some family photos done she arranged the photographer and the party then was left out of them when she went to change after doing all the pre party prep. Clearly having a family photo matters to her.

exactly this. We agreed me and the kids would only go for photos. It was discussed at length to figure out how to make it work without disrupting the ceremony but still having us (his family) there for his special day

OP posts:
Terfarina · 16/10/2026 23:39

Calling this an ultimate betrayal is ridiculous. Newsflash - partner's graduation is not about you, and you don't get a medal for getting your own kids to an event late, and hungry & discombobulated.

You really need to get a grip.
