FOUR out of FIVE new jobs went to foreigners in the past decade, new report reveals

Four in five jobs created over the past decade have been taken by migrants.

Of the 3.7million new roles recorded under the PAYE system since 2014, just 734,000 were taken by UK nationals, a think-tank has found.

EU citizens accounted for 408,000 jobs, while the vast majority – 2.5million – went to migrants from the rest of the world, the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) said, with most of the surge coming since the pandemic.

The think-tank warned that while employers gained 'unprecedented access to overseas labour', taxpayers have been forced to absorb the cost of millions of Britons being 'written off' and left on benefits.

As the number of migrant workers soared by 2.1million from 2020, the number of people receiving out-of-work benefits across the UK rose by 2.3million.

More than one in four (29 per cent) of the jobs that went to migrant workers from outside Europe were in health and social work.

So much for British jobs for British people!

Do we think this is due to Brits being 'too lazy to work' or because of a combination of employers wanting to pay lower wages and offer worse working conditions to migrants/preferring to employ migrants/not wanting to invest in training Brits/diversity hire tick boxes etc.

OK I'm British but say Math because it's the correct way.

Mathmatics - the s is on the end not in the middle.

But let's detract from the topic of my OP.

Seems people on MN don't want to discuss this, I wonder why?

Makes sense my DC struggled to get jobs over the last few years anyway.

Every parent should be concerned about the effect this will have on their children's futures.

Its absolutely NOT the correct way
An abbreviation of a 'plural' word in not singular
Math is an abbreviation of mathematic - does anything you say make sense??

It’s MATHS!!!

It's annoying 😆

How reliable is this as a data source?

The source is themselves and their own analysis of HMRC records, so I would say on a scale of 1-10, reliability is somewhere between -10 and do you think we are idiots?

I should imagine a vast majority of those with families will be claiming top up benefits like housing benefit, universal credit, child benefit and also using services like the NHS, schools, etc while paying very little in.

We are also paying the same benefits to Brits who can't find a job.

You do the Math.

It’s MATHS!!!

Skdkhvyvrhej · 14/10/2026 17:21

It did not take a genius to know this. Glad someone could finally sit down and do the math.

Oh dear, is that because you don't like what I'm saying. Dismiss me as a bot 😂

Why would a Russian bot want to come on a Mums forum?

Yes, you're quite right. No Russian ever tried to interfere with British politics using social media.

This is Iain Duncan Smith’s baby. You would expect right wing views.

I think new roles is probably not what they are. Many will be taking the place of retired workers. It does suggest the Brits are not wanting the roles or are too expensive and need a lot more training. The obvious employment area is health and if we want a semi functioning health service, should we not have employed them? The 1 million neets almost certainly could not do these roles.

A job is a job. A vacancy is a vacancy.

Minasama · 14/10/2026 17:20

Wow. That’s incredible.
The only thing I find quite strange is that when hiring, you generally have to hire someone with existing work credentials. So these foreign nationals must surely already be here, and with the right to work.

Bear in mind these people are taxed here, so they also contribute to our welfare state.

TheProvincialLady · 14/10/2026 17:20

I will do the Math if you promise to do the English Language

The employer does not have to prove that they could not find someone currently resident here who could do the job before they ask to have someone from overseas.

They don't, but they aren't going to pay for a foreigner to come to UK if there are better candidates here

They work hard.

I keep trying and the answer is repeatedly ‘Reform propaganda’ 🤔

FunPartyIdeas · 14/10/2026 17:19

@willingtolearn But surely everyone applying for such jobs has the same outlays?

I'm not changing my mind about immigration OP, despite your post.

Monty36 · 14/10/2026 17:18

jdb9803 · 14/10/2026 17:16

You do realise that these stats are legal migrants - they may well have come here for the job specifically as there were no suitable candidates from the UK.
If this is a reform stop the boats bashing thread then it fails

willingtolearn · 14/10/2026 17:18

It's not the lack of wanting - it's the lack of access and the expense of funding training for the roles.

In terms of caring work - you used to be provided with a car from a pool, get paid for your training, get your uniform for free and were paid travel. You had regular hours and regular clients.

Now - you have to fund your own car, which many young people can't do - and it's not uncommon to be charged for uniform/training.

OpenScroller · 14/10/2026 17:17

Raiderofthelostbattenburg · 14/10/2026 17:10

If these statistics are correct, that sounds like an employer/ worker's rights issue and not an immigtarion one.

YABU to start a thread seemingly for the sole purpose of stirring up hate and division, literally the day after the Chief of MI5 made a statement specifically noting the dangers of anti migrant rhetoric.

This has been reported in the news TODAY.

The Chief of MI5 should have have a word with the media, and the organisation which published the report, and tell them off?

Bot/ stirrer/ journalist? The word Foreigner is a give away as to the intention of this post.
Love the League of Gentlemen comment! 😂
And @titchy, well said.

willingtolearn · 14/10/2026 17:15

I'm fed up of the 'Brits don't want these roles' - they do.

They just don't get a look in or aren't prepared to live in an HMO, working double shifts to eke out a basic existence.

Why don't we want more than this for our children?

FunPartyIdeas · 14/10/2026 17:15

Perhaps they are willing to do the jobs others aren't prepared to do?

CraftyNavySeal · 14/10/2026 17:15

There are Brits in Australia working on farms and down mines so it’s not laziness. People will work hard if it means they can save for their future, that’s why people come to the uk to work. They will grind for a few years then go home and buy a house.

In the uk you can’t go home, the grind has no end. There’s no point scrimping a saving if a house is still 10x your salary.

willingtolearn · 14/10/2026 17:14

@DorsetKnobBiscuit The majority were Non-EU
