How is your household utilising AI to your benefit? Looking for some inspo

I’ve been using ChatGPT (paid) for 2 years, this week I spoke to somebody who’s got a 2nd brain. (Collects all data from multiple sources) and is totally customised to them. Totally opened my eyes to what we can achieve

It’s absolutely terrible for the environment so I try and avoid it as much as possible. A simple Google search will usually do the trick.

You do realise the bad for environment rhetoric is mainly misinformation and has been more or less debunked?

Nutmuncher · 02/10/2026 22:55

I use it for Medical advice- if you put your bio stats in and any current health issues it will basically tell you what needs to improve etc suggests blood tests, products, dietary tweaks whether or not to book in with GP. Truly incredible, we did it for MIL recently and it’s made a huge difference with dietary suggestions, supplements, exercise recommendations, assessed her current medications and recommended GP reevaluation and blood tests, all after an afternoon playing around with it.

It’s great for meal plannings, journey planning, recommendations, problem solving. All things we would have googled or spent ages to research ourselves before AI but now you have elaborate precise answers in seconds.

I use a specialized AI to analyze my investments and tax saving opportunities. It’s called Mezzi AI. It’s quite impressive.

Notbuiltforheat · 02/10/2026 22:44

I’m mid property renovation and it’s helped me calculate the stuff I need, which trades to contact and where they are, a full project management offering. And that’s handy but I could have done it myself. Where it has DELIVERED has been on the legal front by being able to challenge another developer and their ransom strip. It has pulled up case law ad infinitum and I think has saved me thousands. I have fact checked both manually and also by running through other LLM but I’m blown away by the efficiency and yet horrified for the next generation of junior lawyers.

My dd daughter her dim boss to use it and now she produces utter waffle.

mumumental · 02/10/2026 22:35

Oh god @Brendayouknowthatyouremuchtoolazy that’s really not great.

Brendayouknowthatyouremuchtoolazy · 02/10/2026 22:24

It appears an increasing number of parents use it to write extremely long, tedious emails to school. I am very fed up with them already and I suspect this is the tip of the time wasting iceberg.

I don't use it. If someone told me they were using it to eg write emails or reports for work then I would genuinely consider that they weren't competent to do things themselves. My research skills are also pretty good (it's a crucial part of my job) so I don't trust it to do research because I see the enquiries we get at work, which would genuinely be easier to parse and answer if AI hadn't been used.

This is a weird take. You use a computer to make writing reports easier than using a typewriter, but you can’t see that AI is a tool that could (if you learned to use it properly) also make you more effective but spending less time on tasks that don’t need your specific skills or knowledgeable input.

Ilikewinter · 02/10/2026 22:14

I use it for finance stuff, working out mortgage overpayment calculations for example.

I use it to help promote my business on google. So post ideas, I never ask it to draft posts for me, I do that myself but get it to check them for me and it always gives ideas on how to make it better. It’s funny because sometimes it will say for example ‘add your company logo’. I’ll do that and ask it to check again later and it will say ‘remove your logo, your company name will be on your profile anyway’!!

This is really interesting. What AI tools do you use? I like ChatGPT to speak aloud to and sometimes the Google one too. I use copilot for work. Any recommendations for others? I only use the free ones.

Perplexity and Claude are both good. I like ChatGPT to talk things through with but Claude to do work.

I’ve just downloaded Wispr Flow as an AI voice keyboard to play with.

Set an agent to check certain sites every day to see if there are sales on and report back to me when there is.

Create specific weekly menus and shopping lists for specific stores based around family food preferences and diaries.

Track my dog’s health condition and update it with changes to see what alterations need to be made or questions asked.

Create a project to plan retirement strategies using my plan documents and relevant other info including my dreams, and anchors.

I'm not.

I use it to do the things that I don't much want to do like fill out forms ring up places for information
Then sometimes just some fun like making funny pictures or poems or stories before bedtime when I'm not feeling sleepy
It is really helped me set boundaries with people that needed it so I am less of a doormat

Nooo why not make a funny picture or poem yourself? It’s more fun and satisfying, I swear.

Translating things when I'm abroad.

I use it for a daily briefing, what’s in the diary - what’s on my life admin to list/diy task list etc. I sit down every morning and update it with that’s been done what needs adding. I have different sections for different tasks and topics and it’s replaced my diary and todo list. I get reminders throughout the day at certain times and it’s proving very useful. I’ve also got it flagging emails that need an immediate response and then those that need a little more attention. Also have a cleaning rota set up and that’s also helping to keep on track

HollyIvie · 02/10/2026 21:46

I use it as little as possible…

ProtestantTraybakeQueen · 02/10/2026 21:45

My friend used it to write a farewell poem to her kids’ nursery staff. As a songwriter myself, this was very offensive 🤣 I then worried that the thank you email id written to my son’s school would be assumed to have been AI!

I really just wish everyone used AI to shit boring things that no human wants to do. Do not train them to take the essence of life from us!

rookiemere · 02/10/2026 21:42

I use it a lot in relation to my DPs - mostly DM - filling in the gaps between what they say about her condition- late stage dementia- and what that actually means.
Also use it to prep for difficult conversations or scribing emails just so, never use what it produces ad verbatim though as you can always tell a wholesale lift of AI.

cortex10 · 02/10/2026 21:38

Drafting letters and emails to organisations - and giving me ideas for what to write in greetings cards (my mind always goes blank).

CraftyNavySeal · 02/10/2026 21:35

My tax return. Dozens of straightforward but boring and repetitive calculations done in 30 seconds instead of entire evening.
