To think this is terrible of the supermarket?

Ill try to keep this as brief as possible.

I placed an online grocery delivery with the supermarket as I do every week. Over a week ago.

The shopping didn’t turn up by the end of the time slot so I rang customer services. Customer services couldn’t tell me anything but said if it didn’t turn up they’d refund.

By the next day I still hadn’t heard anything at all, so I rang customer services again and they said they’d arrange a refund.

Later in the week I still hadn’t heard anything about the refund being processed or a courtesy call to explain why the delivery hadn’t turned up so I escalated it by emailing the chief executive email address. This seems to be the only way to actually get a response from the supermarket as I’ve had problems before.

Still didn’t hear anything after a couple of days so I sent another email.

Finally heard back from the executive team apologising and promising a refund and a quite substantial goodwill gesture of £50. I accepted this in writing by replying to the email.

Later that day I got a call from the executive office from a different person apologising again and giving me details of arranging a faster back refund. This person said they give a £20 goodwill gesture, I didn’t say anything but I assumed that she’d made a mistake as I’d already had the offer of £50. Plus I was in the school run so was a bit flustered. I don’t even know that it was a different person I assumed it was a follow up call.

Sure enough the £50 voucher appeared in my email inbox, but then I had a further email from the original person saying that she’d duplicated the case and as I’d now accepted the £20 goodwill gesture she’d be cancelled the £50 voucher.

Aibu to think this is appalling customer service?

Complain again and say you accepted the £50 and didn’t accept the £20, u were in a rush doing school run or whatever and assumed they are referring to an additional voucher on top of the £50. It’s so daft of them to give the lesser amount after offering the larger sum. Kick uk a fuss, they’ll have to honour it

Reply that you accepted the first offer of £50 compensation.

I’d be furious and ask why the refund has been reduced. How bloody rude

OliviaTall · Yesterday 23:11

It is Sainsburys.

I did make two phone calls to customer services and did an online contact form before escalating to the CEO and was promised a refund which wasn’t actioned. It took over a week for them to even start the refund.

They weren’t going to process the refund because apparently it was supposed to be actioned by the store and the store just weren’t doing it.

What if it had been my last bit of money which for a lot of people it could have been.

I didn’t ask for £50 they offered it as an apology for their errors, then later withdrew the offer for a lesser amount. Which I think is an absolute cheek.

Email back again to the CEO and tell them you want the full 50 quid you were promised for the unacceptable service you (didnt) receive

TwinklyAmberSloth · Yesterday 22:56

I'm guessing ASDA! They were shocking at getting a refund from!!

JacknDiane · Yesterday 22:54

Waitrose??

Quizzicallyspeaking · Yesterday 22:54

I think that they should've offered at least that amount. That's really poor customer service. If you're relying on a delivery for meal ingredients etc or can't get out for various reasons and then can't rebook a delivery as they're all booked then its a real inconvenience.

Did you read the OP at all?

Yes I did. The OP made 2 phone calls and then chose to email the CEO rather than customer services.

Yes the refund should have happened quicker and it was annoying to have to chase, but really, the CEO and wanting £50?

ItsSoHardD · Yesterday 22:48

Agree £50 is a lot. When my Sainsbury’s order didnt show up they offered me £5 compensation 🤣

£50 seems a lot just for a missed delivery that was refunded to you. Surely you just place a new order for the next suitable delivery slot. It's annoying but you've suffered no financial loss at all just a bit of inconvenience. I'm not even sure why you're getting £20.

It wasn't refunded when it should have been.

What supermarket?

Nephro · Yesterday 22:00

Terrible customer service. Name and shame them

Onemamawenttomoforsomepeaceandquiet · Yesterday 21:55

I'm going to guess Morrisons as we had a similar thing happen.

Still use them though as when it works it works well but we had a patch of missing deliveries for a bit and they seemed to have no smooth process for dealing with it.

ElfAndSafetyBored · Yesterday 21:54

That’s dreadful. Name and shame them.

YANBU. Awful customer service.

Which Supermarket? Rhymes with Fresco?

OliviaTall · Yesterday 21:33

Sorry for all the typos. Also if it wasn’t clear, even after two phone calls the executive team admitted that the refund hasn’t even been actioned so if I hadn’t escalated it it wouldn’t have even been done. So I had to wait over a week for the refund to even be actioned, for a delivery that didn’t even turn up nor was I notified that it wouldn’t be coming.

I think it’s so cheeky to offer a goodwill gesture then withdraw it for a lower amount.
