I've created a conundrum. WWYD?

I've just vacuumed. I was in the kitchen and saw what looked like a bundle of hair on the floor - or a spider with very long legs.
So,💡 I crouched down and blew on it 🌬️ to determine which 🕵️ and it went shooting into the corner under the counter. I blew again and it bundled up. 😳

That's what prompted the big guns vacuum coming out. 🙄

Now, I'm in a bit of a pickle because I have a canister vacuum and have to figure out how to safely open it to empty. 🤔
I figured vacuuming after sucking up the hair/spider would sandwich it in between dust and dirt, effectively trapping it. 🤗

But, I am not looking forward to opening the canister trap door and potentially having an angry spider jump out. 🙈😫

I'm also wondering how intrepid the spider is 🦹 and if it will try to escape the vacuum. If, of course, it is a spider. 🤔

I should add, normally I use the "large cup or jar and sturdy paper method" to catch spiders and release them outside. I'm not a monster.

AIBU to throw the vacuum into the garbage and buy a new one?

Where do you live? I quite like spiders, I'll come and rescue him. He can be company for the one that's living in the corner of my kitchen.

Got a passport? ✈️

I forget which suggestion you made, but so far I don't think anyone has posted anything objectionable on the thread????

I would have left the creature where it was. Eventually it would make its own way out. The only insects I have ever killed are wasps - and even then I give them time to make their way out.

Thinking about it, their eggs are really tiny - so if it's a female about to lay, you wouldn't know and your vacuum cleaner might actually be infested in a few weeks with a whole new colony.

Sleep well.

I walked into a web full of teeny baby spiders when I was about 6.

You n me both.
I've been awake since 3am - so I might be a bit punchy, but I didn't say anything out of line...unless it was the one about reproductive organs of said "vacuum squatter".

It was a large bundle on the floor of my kitchen.

I replied with, Clever, to whichever one you made. It wasn't offensive. If if was I'd have replied with this:

In that case, it should have been a large FLAT bundle on the floor of your kitchen, then a quick wipe with kitchen roll (wearing full HASMAT, obvs) and you'd have a perfectly functional vacuum cleaner, and a clean floor...instead you have a CSI-like kitchen floor and the murder weapon.
🤦🏻‍♀️

Dunno - must have been the mention of their reproductive parts being dragged over your laundry?

Not sure if someone at MNHQ has been on the strong sherry tonight?

They are quite fragile, so it will have been mangled to death by the force of the suction.

GustyGertie · Yesterday 22:05

It ran away and bundled up because it was scared of you. Probably knew you would kill it.

It wasn't funny. I nearly fell over!

How dare you laugh at my traumatic experience.

Even my cats ran away useless hairy buggers.
😺

I’m so sorry.

Not 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You sound like great fun irl.

Your cats running away themselves sure does put the scenario into perspective

You've probably killed it, so it won't jump out at you and you won't be able to post amusingly about it.

@Mumtobabyhavoc Have you calmed down a bit now, or are you still tempted to set all of your belongings on fire?

Seriously, deep breath, bit drink, chuck vacuum.🍸

OP l had a similar experience a few days ago. The bundle of hair turned out to be two very large daddy long legs having a last ditch end of season shag in the middle of my kitchen floor !! They come inside to die at this time of year as it turns colder and l believe from what I’ve read that they are much bigger this year. Could this be what your vacuum has sucked up ? In which case you have nothing to fear because according to a Ricky Gervais stand up routine God gave the daddy long legs the most powerful venom on earth but no teeth with which to deliver it !!

Poor little spider. Just trying to do its job of keeping down all the other creepy-crawlies in the house, and this is how its boss treats it.

Is that so?! I might have to Google that and, if verified, post that trivia here:

Think so - it's the missing link iyswim.

Not sure who I/we offended with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
