The second hand clothes market is dead.

No its thriving. I guess its dying for resellers. But I'm happy to sell decent stuff for a few pounds. And i buy so much stuff from vinted. Especially kids clothes bundles for nursery and kids books.

Data appears to show vinted is very well used which is so goo for the environment, there is no longer a stigma of wearing pre loved secondhand clothes.

I use Anglo too. It was recommended by a poster on here. Just book and they collect.

I made over £2k selling my old crap over the summer hols to now, but i price very keenly and accept most offers.

Yes it’s crazy how cheaply you can find some new with tags things! It’s interesting which shops/brands maintain price and which plummet. I was sad to have missed out on a gorgeous £18 M&S kids dress before it sold out and just bought it Bnwt for £5.

I recently had a baby and have been given a huge amount (too much even) of second hand baby clothes. I tried even just to give them away for free on Freecycle but nobody wanted them. Next stop charity shop.

I was a charity shop shopper for a good 20 years but cba these days as it’s all highly priced and often cheapo garments. I frequently find that I’m making a large return on selling my old charity shop finds from “the good old days” on vinted. Equally, used to be on ebay buying and selling vintage clothes until “vintage” became a meaningless word on second hand sites.

I’m a Vinted virgin who just started selling a couple of weeks ago — I bought a 50 pack of self-sealing A 4 sized mailing envelopes on Amazon and have been able to use them for all but one garment I shipped. The brand is Double Dragon. They’re about €8 (am not in UK).

Vinted has all been very straightforward, and I’m €446 to the good in a fortnight.

Carrier bags taped up or plastic postage bags you can buy in bulk, or for shoes old shoe boxes tapped up.

It is alive and kicking: Vinted is now a bigger retailer in the UK than SHEIN, I think 3rd bigggest in the UK? It has never been easier to buy and sell second hand clothes. It is the opposite of dead.

Its not dead, but the creation of a large accessible marketplace has made it clear how much surplus supply there is, and lowered prices. This is a good thing. Why do people need there to be middlemen profiteering off clothing sales?

As a total novice, for those of you that sell on Vinted, what do you package the clothes in?

The issue is the over-supply. Everyone has bursting wardrobes because of shite-merchants like Temu and Shein, and because clothing is relatively so so cheap nowadays. It's become disposable.

I buy almost exclusively second hand, I think the last thing I bought new apart from shoes/underwear was a dress when Joanie was closing down about 9 months ago.

I would say it’s thriving. I buy nearly all my clothes on Vinted now and have sold lots.

The user interface is easier, faster responses from sellers, postage fees are more obvious and better options.

I made £400 this year flogging my old stuff on Vinted. Maybe your wares just aren’t in demand?

Agree with this. My teens are always buying and selling on Vinted. There do seem to be lots of people trying to price same as new though which I would not pay for.

I give all of my outgrown and unwanted clothes to Anglo now. Can't even sell new with tags kids Next clothes for £3. Or to our local FB clothes banks which is a free giving site. They get all my ( preloved) Boden stuff too now.

The ultimate answer is to only buy exactly what the kids need as they need it and let them wear less things and possibly to death and ruin them in the process. Dd has far less, i no longer buy things in the sales 'just in case'. Each item gets worn more and unlikely to be sellable when finished with. That overall saves more money anyway. Plus better for the environment.

What's the advantage of Vinted over eBay? I've used both and I find the search and filter functions on Vinted much worse. I'm curious about why it's so much more popular?

Ebay has lost its way. It's expensive for sellers, pricing is not transparent either- would make money then get invoiced and lose a chunk of it.

Vinted is easier for sellers, pricing is more transparent. As a buyer, it's much easier to find specific garments. I.e. my kids have had a favourite Harry Potter hoodie from M&S and when they outgrew it, I bought next size up from Vinted.

The second hand clothes market selling via Vinted is thriving. I’ve never bought more second hand clothes in my life and the same for everyone I know. People who would never have bought things in charity shops, are now buying lots from Vinted - especially teens. It’s a great thing for the planet in my opinion - stop buying cheap unethical fast fashion from primark, instead recycle old clothes.
