Panic buying next week?

Ok very random but I work in retail and we’ve been told to expect panic buying/shortages on fuel next week due to something big happening. Am I really naive as when I was told this I have no idea what it is about? I do read the news in the morning but I haven’t seen anything that would relate to this?

This has already been debated on this thread Lots in the news 🤓

Lots of searches you can do that will give you an idea as to the mess we're in. The first one is

El Nino (big concern currently, climate change)
Fuel prices (soaring I believe)
Superintelligence (terrifying, but it looks as though halting development is currently being debated)

Take your pick. On the otherhand, ignore it all and have a nice cup of tea! (Which could possibly be the best way forward!)

I have noticed a shortage of multi pack of baked beans... and also the massive bottles of water. But I live in an area where a lot of people tend to buy bottled water anyway.

I actually do have a lot of posting history I just changed my username for this. Mumsnet is ridiculous sometimes though and people just love to come on and insult people for not reason. I won’t comment again as it’s pointless. I’ll wait and see next week. Hopefully what I have been told is wrong but if not then I’ll be back next week 😊

@mindutopiathe government advice was to have a few days supplies, and for some reason people think they mean months worth! There has been warnings of diesel shortage though.

DH thought it was 3 months, I said no way would it be that because there would be a furore about CoL

Indeed, especially if they are recommending that we spend it eating canned chickpeas with tinned coconut milk. I've got a multipack of Doritos in the cupboard which should make it more bearable.

Well Dave down the pub told me that his cousins neighbours best friends is high up in government! He told him world war 3 is being declared on Monday. Not a word to anyone though as you don’t want to start a panic

You can't be too careful - off the back of the OP's well-informed post I'm going rent a long wheelbase van and panic buy basically everything in the shops and then on my way back I'll fill jerry cans, buckets, empty pop bottles and my pockets with diesel.

This is about the US potentially banning diesel exports for 90 days ahead of the mid terms. As we now import about 55% of diesel and about a third of that comes from the US it would mean quite a price hike and potential shortages.
