To be secretly happy my least favourite colleague has been sacked?

Usually these types of knobheads are promoted out of the department in order for management to avoid having to tackle their behaviour. So yes, I think YANBU to be happy that your managers have actually dealt with a problem employee by providing a fair outcome.

ain't that the truth! I left a job due to being bullied by an utterly poisonous person who always had the manager's ear. I did so well in my new job that i was promoted and given a substantial pay rise. Meanwhile bully carried on with their horrible ways, picking on the person who got my old job until they made an attempt on their life. Then it all came crashing down for the bully and the manager finally faced up to how vile they were and then the whole organisation went to the wall. Took a few years and i did enjoy hearing about it on the grapevine.

I was delighted when my bullying boss was fired. I said all the right things to HR when they informed me: will there be wider cuts, who will lead the team etc. but cackled and did a happy dance when I was by myself. The nasty woman deserved the sack and more.

Someone I once worked with was jailed for a very serious offence, I was delighted that they had finally been caught out and seen as the total fake they are

Sometimes HR and management are quietly building a file in the background, especially as these people usually have form in the past and may well be targeting others at present too but it’s not obvious until those co-workers tell you. Mine has been targeting my coworker too, and I had no idea until they told me. You don’t know who might have reported it and it was enough for the company to do something. It’s actually rather beautiful! You and OP have a great weekend too! Yes I bet Monday will hit differently @iwonderwhyitearmyself 😁

Just be glad that the process for sacking someone who is bad at their job and a bad colleague actually works. In many places it doesn't.

As far as personal satisfaction is concerned, obviously yes we'd all feel it but you can't admit stuff like that in real life.

If anyone is on LinkedIn, it's sometimes worth connecting with the most difficult colleagues so that you know they won't be at your nice, new job. Imagine them walking past your desk on your first day. 😱

(I was a contractor in an industry with a few big companies, so the chances of this happening were fairly high, lol.).

I was in a similar position. Absolute bitch of a woman she was. Despised her and she ended up leaving under a bit of a cloud.

Then a few years ago I decided to change jobs and now work in a school, in the meantime, she’s gone on to have a child and the bloody child comes to the same school. FML.

If I’m ever allocated to that class, I will refuse because I want nothing to do with her or her kid.

I once worked with a truly nasty piece of work, he was a bully and very lazy. He also took a load of sick days and seemed to get away with anything. He was a malignant force in the office and despised by all. Somehow he avoided getting the sack time and time again. I heard recently that he had died.....

LOL I’ve worked with someone like this.

He was slightly senior to me - I discovered all his ‘work trips’ were false. He was actually going away for a week at a time - nice posh spa hotels. He wasn’t meeting with clients and we discovered he was taking his soon to be wife with him - wouldn’t have been an issue taking her had he actually been meeting with clients as he should have done

Work put me out to investigate and they sacked him with immediate effect.

Complete and utter tosser. Arrogant. Also a proper Walter Mitty - claimed to have done/had better qualifications than he actually had.

Surely you’re allowed to think inside your head whatever you want. She’s not, I assume, shouting her joy from the office rooftop.

Only thing better than that feeling is having the privilege of being the one to do the sacking.

@iwonderwhyitearmyself I would absolutely be, inwardly, very pleased and happy that this happened.

Being sacked from a company happens so rarely so they must have done something pretty bad.

I wish there were more mechanisms that existed to get rid of genuinely toxic people/ managers / directors. I mean the ones that cause half their team to go off with stress, the ones where a high % of workers resign due to their manager, where they consistently score poorly on company feedback questionnaire.....

@Askandyforcompo out of interest how long was your colleague working there and how long do you think it took the senior managers to get rid of them?
