Do you always do that? Compassionately consider whether there might be good reasons for it if someone acts like an arsehole to you? Reasons why they aren’t able to be nice?

I'm over the moon two of my colleagues have been given the boot (food retail)

Sisters,(one the main manager and the other a manager) who would cover each other's backs if one made a mistake (and they made some serious ones,like a customer told them they where allergic to eggs so they 'accidentally' put eggs in their food and then laughed about it,while blaming someone who wasnt even in that day or shouting and swearing at staff within earshot of customers) and if anyone tried to say anything,they'd gang together and get rid of that person over the most minor thing (loads of my colleagues left because of them)

They couldn't speak normally,they screamed at everyone-you could hear them outside

Lazy was an understatement-and they blame everyone else for the not doing their work

They also hated me and wanted me out

As it was,back in may I pulled a nerve in my leg and was off work for almost 6 weeks,i was that bad,I couldn't walk for weeks

I came back before I should have done (I cannot live on sick pay) and handed in a doctor's note with a small list of tasks I couldn't do (things like 'can't carry heavy objects' or 'cannot climb stairs')

I handed the note to main manager (id printed it out like she demanded),who ripped it up and her exact words where 'i don't give a fuck about your note,you'll do as I tell you' and promptly sent me upstairs to lift heavy things

She refused to listen and both sisters screamed in my face when I refused

I ended up speaking to their boss who gave them a bollocking,so my card was marked but I didn't give a fuck and they knew it

Last week both where sacked as the main top bosses had such an avalanche of complaints from staff and customers alike about the pair of them,they couldn't ignore it any longer

A friend saw them in the jobcentre yesterday,screaming at the poor sod who was trying to help them

Cant say I feel too sorry for them

If they’re anything like the worst colleagues I’ve had then go for it and enjoy it. I have worked with some truly awful peopke who’d trample over their best mate to get a promotion or recognition.

It would be nice if you cared about how this might affect their family, or considered there might well be reasons why they weren't as good/able to be as nice as other colleagues.

How do you know they were sacked, maybe they just walked. Not doing what you thought they should be doing…you might be wrong. Are these just malign rumours from management who have messed up and wish to portray this narrative and poisonous staff in the middle of a feeding frenzy. Rarely do you get the real facts but you’re clearly very happy with the facts presented to you. Did you play a part in this person’s perceived downfall?

I wonder if that was what happened with the guy in my workplace, because it seemed to happen ridiculously fast so if they were already making plans to get rid that would make more sense. Because as it happened, we complained on a Thursday, management investigated on the Friday, and on the Monday there was a company-wide meeting where it was announced that he was gone!

Enjoy the feeling of relief and schadenfreude. Sadly it probably won’t last because ineffectual management structures will just allow another one to take his place.

To the pp who heard that a previously toxic colleague had died, I heard that a nasty piece of work I had worked years with before fell overboard a yacht and drowned. I felt nothing but grim satisfaction.

I have a terrible colleague. Literally everyone finds them difficult and doesn't understand how they are still employed with us. I complained about some sexism from the colleague to one of my team and have been told it won't go anywhere as the difficult person is making plans to leave. I'm frankly delighted, can't wait. But I also can't tell anyone and gabe a party as it isn't public knowledge yet.

This happened with one of my clients although part of a general redundancy program. I like to think karma had a role to play. As my client I couldn't avoid him and had to deal with him multiple times a week. He actively delighted in causing people stress, regularly bitched to me about his colleagues and other service providers he used, and also regularly complained about me to my boss (typically about stuff I had pointed out in previous emails and his complaints were then "why didn't she tell me this?"). Nightmare of a person. I was ecstatic when he was fired, and if that makes me a bad person so be it! My working life is infinitely less stressful now and his replacement is super nice.

Some people can handle confident people. Some are intimidated.
