*photo* New bay window blinds - would you be ok with these gaps?

Not my house, my friends.

She has had these roman blinds fitted, but she was a bit disappointed that the gaps seem so obvious. Her dh thinks they're fine.

What do you guys think?

I don't think you could get them fitted without some sort of gap tbh.

As PP, it's inevitable with bays. It notices less when they are raised too.

I agree, a gap is unavoidable because you have to have a tiny bit of space for the roller mechanism at the top, either side of the blind.

bay windows are a pain for that i would say when they up they would be better up

It is possible to have Roman blinds in bay windows and for it to look more mimimized
those gaps look pretty obvious

Are they Roller blinds? Roman blinds are folds when open. Either way it's because of the mechanism and that is how they are.

They are quite big gaps but if you look at the top, it doesn’t look like they could really have installed them any closer together.

It probably won’t be particularly noticeable at night when the light isn’t shining through. She presumably won’t generally have them down during the day like that.

Looks normal to me. Surely they'll only be down when it is dark and therefore won't have that attention-drawing light poking through.

I prefer roman blinds because they don't waft around so much or have as big of a gap. (Do you ever hear yourself and realise you're getting old? This is one of those moments for me 😂)

Yeah, i think the fact it's daylight showing through thats not helping.

She just had this kind of disappointed initial reaction. This threads helping!

Agree. She is not at home, she is here with me (hence me starting the thread for her) and her husband sent her that photo.

You can’t avoid a gap when they are at an angle to one another round a bay for two reasons: first, a Roman blind will have folds of fabric at the top when it is pulled up, so if they are flush when closed they will foul one another when open. Second, a Roman blind has a cartridge along the top that contains the mechanism. That is about 1 inch diameter and means the blind has to sit proud of whatever it’s attached to. That inevitably allows some light in. And along the top the cartridges won’t fit flush when they are at an angle like that.

They look nice and as PP have said, it won’t be at all noticeable at night.

Ours on a similar window have gaps but they're much smaller than that. The woman who made them made me double and triple check the measurements I gave her because she wanted the gap to be as small as possible.

I’ve got three Roman blinds in my bay window from Hillary’s and there’s no gap in between them at all. They have been made to fit flush. I would be disappointed with these blinds.

I’d be fine with it. Unavoidable and really isn’t that bad anyway.

Anything new in a room takes a bit of getting used to. The blinds look lovely and with that style there will be gaps x

A Roman blind will sit more flush and hold its structure better. A roller blind will always have more flexibility and gapping.

for a bay window really shutters or curtains are the best option.
sorry she’s disappointed, it’s awful when you spend a lot and it doesn’t work as you envisioned. Could she repurpose them elsewhere?

Too late now, but if the centre blind was a bit wider and mounted slightly in front of the two side blinds (or if they were set back a
bit) there would be no gap.

When we had our blnds fitted they made it very clear that there would be gaps between each blind as it's impossible to fit multiple blinds on bay windows without leaving a gap

We used to have blinds in a bay window at our old house and they looked a LOT better than this, but they were Venetian blinds rather than the fabric style ones.

The gap isn't actually window though, it's the wood that separates the windows (if they're like mine). It looks bright because presumably the woodwork is white and there's daylight reflecting off it. Hopefully she feels better when she sees them in the evening.

When I next get mine done I'm going to opt for those ones that clip right into the actual uPVC frame.
