AIBU to go ahead with my hysterectomy after a recent break-up?

You must have an op scheduled for important health reasons, is it just the fear if no support during recovery holding you back?

What would delaying it mean and when you would you have a chance for the op next?

There must be a reason you need it? I don’t understand why you wouldn’t go ahead with it? Do you have anyone else who can support you physically afterwards?

I was in a better state than I expected after my hysterectomy. You can’t drive for around five to six weeks. After the op, I could potter round the house and put things in the microwave . By week three, i could do a lot more and could gently walk dog (she seldom pulls). You cannot lift anything so if you have small children then it will be very hard on your own. Doing the washing is hard because you cannot just pick up a load. It depends on your family circumstances but i honestly thought I would be bed bound and my husband had set me up the travel kettle and tea making stuff in the bedroom but I never used it cos I just came downstairs! Hope this helps you gauge it. You will need to get home after the op - public transport is a no go.

Oh and the pain was fine - just regular paracetamol for the first few days kept it down. I thought that would be harder. Weirdly, week 5 was the most different probs cos i had decided i was better and started doing too much. I was back at work by week six on light duties.

The NHS says that if you live by yourself, you may be able to get help from your local NHS authority while you're recovering from your operation. Hospital staff should be able to advise you further about this.
