WWYD - FB FR from a friend's partner?

Posting in AIBU for traffic I've had an FB friend request from an old school friend's partner, I've never met this person and haven't seen the friend since we left school (over 30 years ago), I've obviously rejected it but would you say anything to him/my friend? For full disclosure, this is the 3rd time he's tried to friend me, the first time I thought it must have been an accident

I think you're overthinking it. Why would you say anything? Some people just add anyone they have any sort of a connection with as friends, others don't.

I don't get the issue.

Some people just want to "friend" everyone on FB. Some people prefer to have just people they know well.

They keep wanting to be friends, and you don't want to. No big deal.

Why would you need to say anything to your friend? I find that just as odd.

I don't know, I just feel a bit uncomfortable about it as I've rejected it twice previously, I don't think I'd be thrilled if my partner was doing it, especially if they've never met the person.

Maybe I am overthinking it, I've rejected it anyway and hopefully won't get another!

Why would you want to stir the pot with someone you haven’t even seen for over 30 years? To put this into context, you haven’t been in touch with her for the entirety of my life.

If you haven't seen the friend in over 30 years why would you tell them? You have no idea what is going on in their lives or how it would be received. Just block him.

You don’t have to reject it, just ignore it. I’ve got a 2 year old one in my requests, from my friends partner. She’s my friend, not him, but I think he just sends requests to everyone.

Block if you don’t like it … it’s really not a drama

I don't particularly want to, maybe I've been on MN too long and read far too many threads about dodgy people, and their partners being completely in the dark. I shouldn't tar him with the same brush though as he hasn't actually done anything wrong.

Thanks for the reality check, blocking him I think is the best course of action

A bit dramatic! He may be trying to tell you something has happened, your friend may be unwell or have passed away. You can just block him, and he won't send another 🤷‍♀️

Just block him. I wouldn’t tell someone I hadn’t spoke to for 30 years about it.

Maybe he's just one of those weirdos who has thousands and thousands of friends and just adds anyone who comes up as a suggestion without knowing who they are. Maybe he thinks you’re someone else.

Just ignore it, I ignore most friend requests I receive. Life is too short to worry about it. My sister on the other hands friends half the world.

I hear you but she's fine, posting regularly and we do chat even if we've not seen each other in an age. He's blocked now anyway

The cool wives are out in force it seems, but I’m with you OP, there are some right creeps on FB with no boundaries or filters and a bloke friending random women who have turned him down multiple times is definitely off. You’d have to be devastatingly naive to think he had any legit reason to do this.

Fb regularly shows 'people you may know' on my feed, with an option to add as a friend. I wouldn't know if someone has rejected my request but they might keep reappearing on my feed. It could be the reason for the multiple requests. Just ignore it or block if you aren't interested.

So far he hasn't done anything wrong, he could be trying to organise a surprise birthday as mentioned above or he could be a psycho control freak who wants to be friends with all her friends (no matter how distant). Who knows.

Just delete it an think no more of it.

Next he will turn up at your house professing his undying love; then you may have a problem 😉

Have you looked in the hidden folder to see if he’s messaged you about something? I would expect to see something there if he’s friend requesting you for a reason eg party.

He could just be one of those people who adds everyone, or he could be persistently trying to get you to accept because you've ignored him. It might be ego driven from him. Hard to say. I think blocking is the right option.

Definitely no messages. He's blocked now anyway, all sorted 😊
