Is the "Omnicause" real?

So they are basically a movement with a lot of fucked up messages. I'd like to say it's an age thing but sadly not.

Only the approved ones. Tibet still isn't free, no-one gives a fuck any more.
And I will never believe that women are a more powerful group than men if those men don frocks.
Iranian protesters are certainly oppressed by the IRGC, but again crickets, because the Omnicause rather likes Iran.

Oh and the Israeli hostages in Gaza - they were some of the most vulnerable, endangered people on the planet during their captivity, yet Omnicause adherants actually ripped down posters of them.

It might have been like that at one time, as other self confessed lefties have said (thats not an insult) but this progressive stuff is far from being progressive. It's progressing on their terms and their terms alone.

Aren't these all just things where people side with the oppressed/less powerful against those in power/oppressors?

Surely if you tend to be on the side of the least powerful or most oppressed in one situation, you would also be in other situations?

Because they'd have been protesting Gaza a few months ago, or BLM a couple of years ago, or assaulting women who believe in biological reality. It's the same people.

However, they will be noticably quiet about Iran or Sudan. Not approved subjects.

I'm very much on the Left and always have been. But I'm old school Leftie, a believer in material reality etc.

That's very different from the modern "progressives" who are obsessed with identity politics.

To me, the omnicause is summed up by the chant, which I have heard many times from people who believe it:
"Palestine,
Trans rights,
One struggle,
One fight"

Two completely unrelated issues which are shackled together for reasons that make no sense. The fact that there's a group called Queers for Palestine when Hamas would throw them off the roof of the nearest building if its members ventured into Gaza completely baffles me.

The omnicause is a handy word to describe people who will take a Palestinian flag and a trans flag to any demo or march, no matter what it's about.

FWIW, I have been sympathetic towards Palestinian people for many years (the film Mayor is a really good portrait of what life is like for ordinary Palestinians trying to lead a normal life), think that the destruction of Gaza and the actions of illegal settlers on the West Bank are indefensible.

But I also believe that the October massacres carried out by Hamas were abhorrent atrocities and that the state of Israel has the right to exist.

I would usually be considered a bleeding heart liberal in old money but these days I’m a fascist because I don’t buy into the omnicause. I’m really surprised people haven’t heard that term before. It’s why the guardian has no nuance anymore. It’s why jk Rowling and Ed Sheeran can get cancelled for doing or saying one thing that is against the shared beliefs of people who have to pick a side for everything because thinking critically and not having all the answers is actually a difficult position to hold.

People who wholeheartedly support the omnicause were religiously sharing their pronouns 2 years ago, shouting defund the police 5 years ago and dying their hair blue 10 years ago. It is for the chronically online as it thrives in the echo chambers the algorithms encourage. It’s destroying the left which is the worst part of it.

I think it's a buzzword /.dog whistle term used to be deliberately vague and dismiss discussing specific issues if they can lump them all in with a deliberately vague forced teaming.

There does also seem to be a common language/phraseology as well.

I am often irritated by the sheer mass of thought-terminating slogans any communication is comprised of, rather than actual facts and/or coherent argument for the position.

And these slogans themselves move in cycles to - so one "saying" is always most prevalent, then another will take its place. It is embarrassing to witness tbh. I often wonder if there is some secret email supporters get announcing the phrase of the week or something.
