I work part time in a shop. I was promoted a couple of years ago to a supervisory position. I'm good at my job, reliable and have always gone the extra mile to support both the small shop and my colleagues. I was proud of the promotion and to be honest thought I'd earned it.
The powers that be recently decided to employ a 'shop assistant.' Their job spec is exactly the same as my Supervisory position one was. They are earning the same salary as I am and they are being groomed to do exactly my job.
I no longer know exactly what role I command. The new person is very capable and pro active and whilst I have no issue with them I feel the waters are being muddied when we work together. They are keen to take the lead on things and at times take over my workload unnecessarily. I feel demeaned to be honest. A couple of the staff/friends say they see my point but they're probably biased. I'd value opinions.
