AIBU to worry Aptamil Pepti 1 is making feeding harder for my baby?

Hi All, I’m really hoping someone can offer some advice/help as we are in the trenches right now with my 9 week old daughter’s feeding.

My daughter was displaying symptoms of CMPA so was put onto Aptamil Pepti 1. The first couple of days on the milk was absolutely amazing she was like a different baby, but then we hit problems. She was using Lansinoh bottles with the XS teat as I tried a faster teat with her but it caused a lot of distress. After a couple of days on the Aptamil Pepti 1 she began collapsing her teat on her bottle. I then moved her onto a MAM bottle and size 0 teat, but she is chugging her milk so fast and she has so much spit up. I’ve tried different bottles, pace feeding, anything and everything to try and reduce the amount of spit up. She has infacol in her bottles as she does seem a bit more comfortable when I use that, but she’s been on this milk 10 days today and I am dreading every time I feed her because she becomes so distressed when winding, gulps her bottle down and chucks a load of it back up despite me trying to pace her. Plus she had a mucousy poo yesterday which did temporarily clear up last week and the smell was like the poos she was doing on the Kendamil. I am hesitant to try thickener or anything in her milk and upset her tummy any further, I feel like a nervous wreck!

Does that brand of formula have ‘for hungry baby’ that she could move onto? She may not gulp it then as it’s more filling.

@WhoPaintedMyRosesRed its a special formula for babies with a cows milk intolerance, the GP prescribed it for her due to symptoms of CMPA. It’s just because it’s so thin it’s caused so many problems but I think all of the prescription formulas are just as thin as this 🙈

Do you use the paced feeding positioning / technique?? It controls the feed better. Easier to look at YouTube than for me to try and describe it. Can’t believe hungry baby milk is still being recommended!

Why wouldn’t it be?

Mine were babies 18 years ago so I’m not up-to-date with the latest recommendations.

I do remember though that Aptimal went straight through them and caused distress and C&G number 2 seemed to do the trick. Full bellies and content.

I understand that OP can’t use C&G but thought there may be a thicker alternative in the brand she’s using.

That sounds so hard for you both. I would suggest that you see your GP who can either advise you or refer you to a paediatrician.

Its been about 5 years since my son was diagnosed cmpa and we had prescription milk, the only thing I can think of is that some of the ones for cmpa still have milk traces in them which they go for as first option cos theyre cheaper, if its a bad milk allergy it can be that the milk proteins in that formula even slightly can still be upsetting baby's tummy. I would talk to doctors again about it and find out about a different cmpa formula
