To use a cleaner? Of do what’s reasonable?

I can’t keep up with the housework, I always felt having a cleaner was a luxury but now I’m thinking maybe I should get one.

What’s a reasonable price? I phoned one up and she said £17 an hour but I know she charges my neighbour £15! Any point arguing over £2? What do you pay for cleaners? I live in Greater London

She's probably had to raise it for new customers. Sounds reasonable.

Around here in North Wales, it seems to be £50 a visit. It seems like an eye-watering expense for once a week, and a luxury to most, but as it makes my life easier, I work more hours than most, and a tidy house helps with my mental health, I'm more than happy to cut other costs to afford the help with keeping the house clean.

£17 for Greater London is cheap. I'm in Hertfordshire and pay £20 an hour.

You've got to factor in them being self-employed and the costs incurred.

£17-20 here (south coast). My lovely cleaner would be the very, very last luxury I cut back on!

£15 per hour for us, we supply all equipment and products. She does 3 hrs a week, though in reality she is generally done 15 mins early and I’m not going to pick her up on that as she’s good and it’s a good rate.

4 bed, 2 bath, 2 reception house, 1 cat. It’s isn’t a tough clean as there isn’t enough time for it to get proper dirty and we do tidy before she comes. I also make sure I pay very promptly.

I pay £18 an hour and live on the Kent coast

I know she's raised her prices for new clients to £20.

I live in NW Surrey, less than one mile from the Greater London border, and I pay £20 per hour for a cleaner who came highly recommended. She does 3 hours (so £60) every other week.

2.5 (as far as I know, because they come when I'm at work), but two cleaners come at a time.

Mine is £17.50/hr in the north west. I think you’re getting a good deal.. she might raise her prices for her old clients in January or something.

Having a cleaner is no different to paying for other convenience things like supermarket delivery or a window cleaner. I love it… it’s the peace of mind knowing that I don’t need to ever feel guilty again that I haven’t cleaned the bathroom for weeks.

I pay £20 an hour for 3 hours clean once a week. It’s 100% a luxury but it helps my mental health so much just taking that pressure off us. I have a stressful job, two children and life is too much. I generally enjoy my home alittle more now it’s regularly cleaned. I’ve found it’s allowed my husband and I more free time at the weekend and I’ve been more organised with the kids as clearly takes away some mental load. Yes it’s a luxury and would the the first to go if we needed to tighten our belts but for now it’s worthwhile for our sanity and surviving busy jobs and lives.

I think that’s pretty average. On the cheaper side if anything. My cleaner is £18 an hour and we’re rural Devon so not exactly London prices!
