AIBU to be annoyed about neighbours having 8 cars?

There should be legislation regarding the amount of vehicles a property can have. Also if you have a driveway you should be enforced to use it. Sorry OP this would have my blood pressure on the boil; and I know I would move if finances allowed.

Sorry, I voted YABU as all cars are taxed and insured. We are car people, and between DH and I we have 23 vehicles. Also all taxed and insured, OK we don't park them on the road, mostly as they're all classics and they are stored in our garages.

Because they are business vehicles, or over a certain size then get them off the road

After all I cant put my shed in the road and store things in it

I suspect that if this became widespread either people would park them on their own land or get smaller vehicles

My daughter and son in law moved house for the same reason as neighbours had 10 cars due to adult children and their partners and all parking around my daughters house so no room for their cars. They moved to a house with a driveway. I appreciate you may not wish to do that but if they are all taxed and insured there is little you can do. Infuriating why some people are so selfish

I would be very tempted to regularly throw birdseed on their cars….. they might get sick of having to clean it off!

That's an insane number of cars, and it would drive me mad, too. Sorry you're having to deal with it. As you've said, they're unlikely to be reasonable people who will care that what they're doing is selfish or make any changes, unless forced by a change in the parking rules.

I'd be careful about the birdseed (as satisfying and amusing as it would be!), if there's any chance they might see or catch you on camera.

This has indeed become an increasing problem, especially with DC living at home later owning cars.

In our previous cul de sac there was one family who had a car, van, motorhome and their 3 adult kids had a car each. One was parked on the drive and the others took up the whole small street, including feeling the right to permanently park in the turning zone.

I live in a development of flats and we all have one allocated parking space per unit. There are also visitor spaces which are for short term use and aren’t meant to be used permanently by the residents.

One guy parks his car in the middle of two spaces, so taking up a visitor spot, as he’s worried his car will get damaged. One guy takes up three spaces with a car, a motorbike and a massive long wheel base van which probably overhangs the bay by half again and another person parks on the pavement right outside one of the communal front doors.

Lucky me has the LWB van opposite my allocated space and it’s a bloody nightmare trying to get in and out of my bay. The management company are forever sending out letters asking residents to park considerately but no one does. There’s a lot of people out there who turn into utter twats when it comes to parking unfortunately.

We've got neighbours like this! A young couple with 5 cars, most of them old bangers. They have one parking space allocated to their flat (which I appreciate isn't enough if 2 people are sharing) and the rest of the cars are on the main road without moving for weeks

It's not an issue for us as our driveway can accommodate 4 or 5 cars, and we only have 2, but it's a nightmare for other houses. It's so selfish.

I know that no one owns the road and anyone can park there, but having 5 cars belonging to a 1 bed flat is ridiculous.

Without wanting to sound like Hyacinth Bucket, we have got the biggest drive on our road and if you park carefully you can get 5 cars on. We only have 2. One of our neighbours has 3 cars and no drive, the other both have a driveway but still park in the drive which then means the one with 3 cars constantly asks if they can use our drive. Feel bad saying no because we have got tue space but l think they will just expect it if we keep saying yes.

The road outside of my house is taken up with live-in vans and motorhomes. A mixture of motorhomes owned by people nearby (next few roads along but obviously don’t want to annoy their neighbours, that don’t use them bar 1 week a year and the massive influx of ‘van lifers’ because we live by the coast.

YANBU to be pissed off but you will look deranged if you leave a note.

Definitely go to the council and really press for that residents permit system. That's the I clear answer to a road built before everyone had a vehicle, never mind more than one.
Meanwhile maybe the birdseed
And ask them not to take up two spaces by parking in the middle, they could at least put 2 of theirs there so another spot is freed.
Totally inconsiderate.

If their taxed and insured, which the op has said they are, then they're not abandoned.
