That it's a massive waste of time, effort, money, lives and we should just bring them over by coach and ferry.

I have just watched the video from earlier today/yesterday of a migrant boat departing Boulogne. The one where the Dad (presumably) ditches his toddler in the sea in order to get onto the boat. The kid was instantly picked up by French emergency workers and it struck me that this whole situation is completely bizarre.

There were approximately half a dozen lifeguards around the boat on jet skis and paddle boards, probably also a load of police out of frame. The boat will then be shadowed by French coastguard vessels until halfway across the channel, at which point border force/RNLI will pick them up and bring them to the UK. They will then be greated by coaches, a couple of hundred riot police and some (redacted by MNHQ) before continuing to their destination.

AIBU to think that this is all a total farce and we should simply provide the coaches from the outset?

YABU - The current arrangement is best.

YANBU - Coach and ferry would be better for everyone.

Well that depends if it reduces the numbers. Maybe if we did run a safe coach a day, people would queue? And go elsewhere if the queue was too long?

What happened to the toddler and Dad, are they now separated?

Haha I'm reading through the thread, but I'm certain that this one will be the winner.

They'll queue! They'll all presumably walk around with briefcases and bowler hats and hold doors open for ladies from the moment they reach the Kent coast, too?

Surely the path to total integration into British society for men who ditch babies floating in the channel will be super easy and take a matter of days. If you disagree, you're a far-right racist who has a picture of Nigel Farage as your screensaver.

To people saying why don’t they just stay in France - have you seen the state of the camps at Calais? They are slums, absolutely awful conditions. The French really don’t give a fuck. At least when they come to the uk they are given a hotel while they wait to claim asylum! Factor in the general racist attitude of the French (they are much less tolerant than the uk) and English being a more widely spoken language, it’s a no brainer. Oh, and it’s easier to work illegally in the uk (Deliveroo etc).

This is exactly how the UK should have it slums for them to come into rather than hotels we shouldn’t give a fuck as much as the French don’t and then maybe they would stop coming all together- it makes sense we don’t want them here but they are given 5* treatment. Let’s mirror France with their poor conditions and lack of things and see how many try to enter or stay.

Too bad. There have been far too many coming here. We need to disincentivise them to come to Europe in the first place

Yes, I’m not saying it’s a good thing they’re coming here. But just explaining the reasoning to the thickos on here who always say wHy dOnT tHeY sTaY iN fRaNcE

MaturingCheeseball · Yesterday 18:52

I just don’t understand why the boats can’t be slashed before they put to sea . The reasons seem to be that the French police are afraid of the migrants, and also they’re happy to get rid of them.

France needs to close their borders. The next thing will be the migrants who have been granted citizenship in Spain will travel through France as per Schengen and then jettison their documents en route to UK.

Another problem is the do-gooders, hundreds of whom are funded by the taxpayer. I was reading about the poor people in Ceuta who have been swamped not just by migrants, but by an army of people busying themselves with making the migrants as comfortable as possible and facilitating their desire to get to Europe.

ThisUmberSwan · Yesterday 18:44

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · Yesterday 18:31

But what are your intentions in saying to slash their boats? Just to make a point in making it take them longer to swim to the shore, or for them to drown? They're clearly not going to be able to swim back 20 miles or more, so what alternative is there? What do you envisage is going to happen to them if you just slash their boats when they're in the middle of the Channel?

I’m not saying I want them to drown. I’m saying I don’t think people should be making these crossings in the first place, and I don’t think our rescue services should be expected to repeatedly put themselves at risk to facilitate them. My view is that they should be intercepted safely, taken back to the land they departed from, and then transported back to their country through the appropriate process rather than being brought into the UK.
So no, I’m not suggesting they should be left in the middle of the Channel to drown. I’m saying I believe the crossings should be stopped and people returned safely rather than allowing the journey to end with them arriving here.

I personally don’t care about them I don’t sit here and think about them dying but I don’t care about them to want to reach our country I want them to remain in their own.

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · Yesterday 18:31

ThisUmberSwan · Yesterday 18:25

I’m not deliberately putting anyone to death, and I certainly haven’t said “see foreigner = kill them”. My point is that these people are making the decision to get onto boats and cross waters knowing that the journey can become dangerous.
I don’t believe that automatically means British rescue services should be expected to put their own people at risk to intervene. They made the decision to undertake the journey, and I think there should be an element of personal responsibility for that decision. That’s very different from deliberately killing someone.

My integrity and humanity aren’t obligations to care equally about everyone. I simply don’t have sympathy for people who choose to enter our country illegally and put themselves in dangerous situations to do so as I say they are drowning us so no I don’t believe we should all be compassionate because they aren’t here to integrate into our ways beliefs our integrity and humanity they are here to ruin, disobey, harm and cause upset so no I don’t feel an ounce for them and they should not be entering our country

So you would deliberately put them to death then? Considering that, in this country, we don't even have the death penalty for the most horrific crimes? Whatever the migrants may or may not be intending, is your own British sense of integrity and humanity not higher than "see foreigner = kill them"?

No arrangement is best. We don’t need these migrants here and they are perfectly safe in France

Trouble is, France don’t want them either!

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · Yesterday 12:05

And that’s our problem or France’s problem because? If they hop aboard a boat and come across they risk their own lives so why should we worry about their lives when they don’t seem to care about their lives or ours who they wre impacting by coming to our country

Who are you to say if we disagree with men in large groups wandering around our towns we are right wing? This argument is getting rather tiresome. From my own personal experience, I can no longer visit the city nearest to me. It is not safe and last time I went I was harassed and followed by groups of men at 9am. So no not ‘dog whistle’ at all. Who has voted to let people drown, rather a dramatic statement with no relevant evidence? So because we don’t want large groups of men entering the country, without any vetting, we are right wing and would rather they drown? Figures may show that crime has reduced, not sure the recording of this is correct, but from a personal perspective I genuinely feel very unsafe in my local city which I have never done before.

Sorry that was meant as a response to @SmallDFartyCarNRG

You'll find the rest of you lot on the thread about immigrants increasing violence on our streets - another dog whistle thread, but then you're probably all on that one as well. Women and children (or younger voters as the next best indicator) don't tend to vote to stop helping drowning people. Which is murder, by the way.

Academic studies and data from organizations like the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) show a complex picture: overall crime rates in Britain have fallen significantly over the last few decades, a period during which net immigration steadily rose. However, the combination of sensationalised media stories, anxieties over unmanaged borders, and the visible pressures on local communities keeps the narrative highly potent for right-wing voters

There’s no way that is true. I pass so many places in London where I know people have been stabbed to death or shot. This is something that was unheard of when I was young, but it’s commonplace now.
People don’t bother reporting crime anymore.

I was surprised that in the news boats had also arrived "unseen" - as I had assumed this was happening all the time anyway?

Show's how the news can give different impressions.

All that would happen is that the dinghies would continue but we’d also have people arriving on coaches. People who are desperate will not wait patiently for a coach place.
