AIBU students don’t have bags?

It’s freshers week at universities. Went in a supermarket next to a uni campus to collect a click n collect.
Whilst I was there I checked if my favourite spirits were on offer. One was.
On self scan, loads of students and all buying bags.

Students need to realise that bag charges have been in place for 11 years in England and longer in other parts of UK.

Plus this is going to eat into their budget

I'm 40 and I sometimes make a spontaneous trip to the supermarket without bags. I tend to buy milk and eggs, rather than gin, but I do splash out on a bag sometimes.

Don’t worry, your bottle of spirits will be around double the carbon footprint of a plastic bag!

I notice a lot of men do not have bags with them! Even though I have stacks of reusable bags in the house and in my car, I still sometimes forget to grab one when popping in for a few bits of shopping. At least in the Co op they sell thin reusable bags which I can use to line my food bin - better than adding yet another bag for life to my stash!

Their bags for life are still full of clothes and equipment as they haven’t had chance to unpack yet

Im 53 and always buying reusable bags despite a collection of them at home becsuse im always forgetting them💁
I can forgive a new student who quite possibly has never food shopped for themselves.

Yes, they didn’t remember to bring cotton bags or bags for life from home, and are buying bags they will presumably reuse all year.

So this is their first time living alone and they are having to buy some of the things that is needed for living alone for the first time?

Both mine took reusable folding fabric bags with them to uni.
Whether they ever took them to the shops whilst there is another matter.....

They’ll soon learn! They are all likely away from home for the first time and are finding their feet and learning their way, give them a break!

What a pointless thing to worry about, leave them be. I never remember to take a bag and I’m 44!

Carrying a spare bag will be so far down their list of priorities that it won't even register. Most students (especially Freshers) have so much going on that the focus will be elsewhere. It is a stressful time at the beginning of term!

Most will learn the hard way to carry bags and others will not care. I have met plenty of adults who do not give a shit about the environment or saving a few pennies, sadly.

When I went to uni it never occurred to me to take a shopping bag. Did it occur to you they may have bought them with the intention of reusing them? Everyone has to buy the first bag don't they?

I'm 45 with a huge collection of reusable bags and I still have to buy one from time to time! As long as they were paying for them I don't really see the issue.

They don’t have bags because they have just started uni and don’t have any, surely! It is the start of the academic year.

I’m sure they’ll figure it out and in many cases a parent will have given them a bag for life which they have forgotten.

Perhaps the have only just got there and it is the first time they have been shopping and they are going to reuse the bag they bought today.
