To think hotel designers should at least have once slept in a room before being allowed to design a room.

Might be a German thing went on holiday there a few years ago. 2 out of the 3 hotels had showers n the hotel room. Not in the bathroom the actual bedroom with clear glass shower doors. First proper holiday with DP it was quite revealing shall we say.

Nowhere to put your suitcase except on the bed, mucky wheels on white sheets

Mirrors over a dressing table that are too high up when you sit down so you’re just looking at your forehead when you’re trying to do hair and make up.

Came here to say glass showers. We stayed at the Hilton Silverstone and despite a 26 year relationship. Ew.

One room where the air con unit had a blue flashing light which lit up the room with each flash

when there are no sockets near a mirror. Making hair drying a nightmare. Wash my hair quite a lot when away. Especially if there’s a pool at the hotel or going to an event.

no where to put a suitcase out of the way so tripping over it all the time.

I can reiterate from my chambermaiding days that they are only ever washed if actually covered in puke, red wine or anything else obviously staining, otherwise they’re just spritzed.

YANBU. So much bad design. This stuff is basic; the rooms are purpose built. I'm not staying in someone's spare room that doubles as an office where I expect to make do. I don't get why there isn't just a checklist they work through.

Lack of shelves, horizontal surfaces and hooks in en-suites. Where are we supposed to put our stuff.

I wash my hair every day, but still hop in for the odd extra shower if I've got hot and sweaty.

It’s not weird at all! I shower twice most days (not trying to be wasteful; I teach fitness classes so I do need two showers a day- usually only about 3-4 minutes in there though). I wash my hair about once a week!

Glass bathroom walls. Stayed in a brand new hotel, where the loo faced the glass wall, on the other side was the bed. Went to reception and they already had curtains with suction cups on offer because people complained so much!

Doors that shudder everytime some one else on your floor opens/closes a door.

Lack of powerpoints. DH now carries a powerboatd. Tbf he carries more tech than an electronics shop.

I would have wholeheartedly agreed until recently when our hotel had a power cut while I was showering. Fortunately it was daylight so I could still see what I was doing.

Recently stayed somewhere and the bath was so narrow that I had to stand in the shower over bath, side on so I could open my legs enough to wash my groin and undercarriage.

My pet hates are no coat hooks, what am.l going to do with my coat.
Not enough hangers.
Only one chair in a double room.

Oh, and another room where a small tug on a curtain opened/closed the curtains fully.

I sometimes wanted a little natural light in my room. Not blazing sunshine throughout or sitting in the pitch black.

And that was in one of the 50 best small hotels of the world, named in a list a few years ago as the plaque was proudly displayed in reception.

I travel every other week for work, and have a 3m extension lead cable in my bag. Why are plug sockets in stupid places?
Why are they not next to the bed?
Worst place had 1 where the tv was plugged in no other. My extension lead just reached the bed to charge my phone.
I might start taking 2.

One of the hotels i stayed in over the summer had 14 light switches.

The light above the suitcase rack near the door was only guaranteed to turn off from a switch on the other side of the room.

It also turned off with a combination of some unknown design of some switches on and others off.

Shower heads that are too low. I mean I am freakishly tall for a woman and just over 6ft but it’s not an unusual height for a man and they use showers too. Hate having to squat to get my head under the rose.

Also, some hotels have replaced the plug sockets beside beds with USB only sockets. I see their logic but a plug is still needed for anyone with a CPAP machine or people like me who need up to 4 usb ports and the socket provides only 2.

Not being able to turn on the bathroom light without the fan whirring up big time. Annoying for anyone in your room or next to it, or below or above it

i was having quotes for new bathroom. One of them told me I was being dramatic wanting a separate switch. He didn’t make the shortlist

No sockets by the bed is the worst one.

I agree. DH uses a CPAP machine and now keeps an extension lead in his overnight bag just in case. We have stayed in many places where it has trailed across the floor to a socket on the other side of the room.

I’ve started calling ahead to make sure they have high rise pillows. Why can’t they just get it right???

Rainfall showers should be illegal. I hate them. I like a detachable shower head so that I can aim it everywhere that needs to be washed.

No excuse for any modern hotel not to have bedside sockets for phones. I find some of the older hotels better. They have modernised the lighting but the plug sockets that I presume were for bedside lights can be used for phone.

I have glasses I need a proper bedside table. I always carry a case now, I’m pretty much blind if they break.

Agree on curtains that don’t close, positioning of vents, no cups, bins that are not lined

I went to one recently and I was shocked that instead of tea and coffee in the room, there were tea and coffee stations in the hallways!! They called themselves and "eco hotel" but surely we don't have to skimp on a cup of tea in our rooms!

A bathroom with no door and the shower - with a wall that only went halfway up - placed so that anyone entering the room from the outside would see the person showering. Who thought that was OK?! I lived in fear of housekeeping stopping by.
Bathroom entrance doors that can't be fully opened. One was prevented by the countertop from opening more than about a 35 degree angle. There's no way the builders didn't know that.
