To think hotel designers should at least have once slept in a room before being allowed to design a room.

Stupid tiny pots of uht milk. Why… Ot a sad sachet of oat milk.
Charging ports/ sockets. Near the bed and mirror. Many please.
Provide a proper. Decent. Hairdryer. With a nozzle. Bonus points for straighteners.
Fixed AND handheld shower.
Coffee machine? Lovely. Can we have more than two pods per night please?
Don’t have the coldest room in the country with a radiator on a timer.
No aircon? Two fans please.
Not room related, but conveyor belt toasters should be illegal. Forcing me to make apologetic small talk with strangers while I re toast . Stop the madness.

Also the duvets are always way too thick and hot.

And the pillows are the thickness where using one is too thin and using two is too thick.

Some sort of low light / night light for the bathroom would be brilliant.

Instead of a choice between pitch darkness or searing brightness plus a noisy fan.

Above all I want a switch by the bed that turns everything off (nothing more frustrating than desperate to go to sleep and searching for how to switch off light number 13.

Also proper blackout curtains without a gap, and air conditioner that isn’t noisy, some soap and some free drinking water!

Also I like it when the police don’t bang on my door in the middle of the night then repeatedly shout “Police! Open the Door!” when (not expecting anyone) I don’t answer. This happened last time I travelled on business (in an Eastern European country.) They didn’t seem to understand that most women aren’t going to open the door to three unexpected male visitors in the middle of the night.

Musician here. May I mention the dressing rooms on the South Bank? The place, you know, where musicians HAVE to wear long black, but are provided with shirt length wardrobes to hang said concert garb.....

Big elaborate wardrobes but no where to put a suitcase. I’m staying 1 night. I’m not going to unpack, I just want a knee high bench to put my little wheely suitcase so I can get stuff without bending to the floor.

I think that about most things. The men who design washing machines have clearly NEVER once had to clean the dispenser drawer and its surroundings, which gets manky even when it is never used. Same applies to most appliances.

I could even forgive most of the ridiculous set-ups if I could SLEEP
without flipping lights coming from the TV, the alarms and god knows where.

I KNOW you are supposed to take black tape with you, but come on.

I hate glass walls with a vengeance but raise you no walls at all and open plan en-suites that “flow” into the rest of the room. At least glass walls offer some sort of protection from smells!

The one that i really don't understand is an odd number of coffee sachets in a room for an even number of people. 3 sachets in a room for 2. Just WHY?????

YANBU. My top hates are the stupid cushions and runners, bathrooms that aren’t properly separated from the bedroom, ridiculously complicated lighting and showers, stupid little LED lights here, there and everywhere.

The absolute worse things are no noise insulation and rooms that aren’t clean

Ive had to ask for help with the shower controls and n the receptionist couldn’t work out what was wrong either. He ended up having to call someone.

I’ll add air con that blows straight to the bed and / or makes crazy noises. So your choice is either try sleep in a sauna or cold air blows in your face and you wake up from the noises.

And the mirror is usually placed directly opposite the window so that any light that comes in is reflected back, illuminating the whole room. And the light that seeps under the door from the corridor lights that stay on ALL night

My thoughts for what they are worth

Pelmets - yes I know they are old fashioned but they stop the light coming over the top of the curtain where most of it leaks in. Curtains that actually fit the size of window, have the correct amount of hooks and that pull together properly. It's usually the top where they don't meet properly but - pelmets!

Timed lights or motion sensitive lights in the corridor. I remember in a hotel France that you pushed the light button (it was sort of squishy), lights come on all down the corridor and you had enough time to get to the toilet down the hall. Come out, press the switch and you have enough time to get back to your room - this was happening in the late '70s!!!!!!!! Why, WHY haven't we got something like this or motion sensitive lights in the 2020's?? WHY

Sockets either side of the bed. I have a CPAP machine - I have to take an extension lead every time I go to a hotel as I can't guarantee that the plug can reach the socket - and it's a reasonable length lead.

And every time I stay in a hotel I comment to DH, I bet the management or staff have never slept in this room because if they had these faults would not exist - unless they are sadists - which is always an option

Oh gawd those hairdryers where you have to keep the button pressed in to keep the power on. They can go to hell. How many people accidentally leave hairdryers on anyway??
those bed runners can be very useful for blocking the light out from under the 2” gap under the door.

We need hotel rooms designed by women.

mirrors need sockets, bedside tables need sockets, kettles need sockets that don’t require you to unplug your TV or laptop.

Doors to the corridor and the bathroom need to fit, lock and not be see through and sliding.

The room temperature needs to be adjustable for comfort and the heating/Ac unit quiet.

There needs to be enough glasses and mugs and they should be proper sizes. And if a third person is staying, they too need a cup, a glass and towels.

No it’s not! It isn’t good for your hair to wash it daily!

Light switches in a row, and/or external to the bathroom.

Unlike OP I do not like to use a dark bathroom, but I don't want to accidentally light up the whole bloody room.

no socket next to bed for charging my phone - mirrors too high or in wrong place for drying hair. Shower head being very high - I am sure these hotels are designed for giants not normal height people
