I'm mid 30s, tired of the all-over bloating every time convinced I've put weight on, being gassy, headaches, tiredness, a batch of new spots on my face, and more.
Did your symptoms improve/worsen prior to menopause? How do you manage the above or what other symptoms to you have?

The advice is usually 'eat a healthy diet and gentle exercise' as if that makes any difference.

Try vitamin B complex for tiredness. Also, I discovered that alcohol was not my friend as I headed towards peri, it made me SO tired next day. When the face allergy kicked in too I knew it was time to pack it in.

I have PCOS and endometriosis and have struggled all my life - “luckily” I have the type of PCOS where I still get regular periods and I’ve found tracking my symptoms to be a massive help - it means I know what to expect and when, and can kind of plan my life a bit better.

It doesn’t get rid of the symptoms of course but it means I find them a lot more manageable if I know they’re coming or if I can look at my phone and go “oh, it’s just x” and be kinder to myself.

You won’t like this but diet, exercise and sleep has really helped me.
I was very sedentary and unfit in my late 30s due to cancer. Periods were also getting terrible…
regular flooding, awful fatigue etc. I also have a medical condition which causes fatigue. I tried ferrograd tablets for low ferratin. but they just made me horribly constipated.
Decided To sort my shit out in a couple of years ago and I now get up early and exercise 4 mornings before work, strength train, go to bed at 9pm as I’m so tired from getting up early, healthy food prep for breakfast and lunches so I can at least get 2 protein and iron rich meals in before falling off the wagon on an evening 😂
I’m not perfect but my body feels so much more…. Resilient ? I feel strong and have a decent base level of energy.
honestly maybe sometimes the exercise just takes my mind off the cramps so it doesn’t stop it.

I know it is boring but eat healthy, no or little alcohol and exercise is really good advice. Find an exercise you like and sort your diet out.
i find alcohol free beer widely available in pubs and bars nowadays and thats great. I may have a glass of wine and then stay on the O% alcohol beer. Also when i exercise, my diet automatically gets better.
Finally what type of contraception are you on? The pill can help with your symptoms, speak to your GP

momager22 · 23/09/2026 08:45

Oh and I basically clear my diary as much as possible in the few days before my period when I’m lacking in energy. No late nights or social things and if it falls on a weekend I build in a lie -in/ gentle day.
If I’m run ragged the day up until my period starts it’s much worse.
when I’m bleeding - bag of frozen spinach in the freezer and I make a green smoothie daily. Also order a grocery shop and have some beef. Important to replenish the iron.
I rarely drink alcohol too. My body just can’t process it any more and I feel dreadful the next day.

Implant.

diet and gentle exercise made fuck all difference and my periods were fucking brutal.

Herecomethegirls1 · 23/09/2026 09:49

I don't drink alcohol and haven't for years, I exercise every day and I eat well, it's not that I don't like it, it's just that I know it makes zero difference.

I do everything you describe and my periods are still so painful that I require prescription medication and have had several referrals to gynaecology.

Ok so if you need several referrals to ob-gen this is not about ordinary menstrual pains as in OP post. Sorry to hear you are struggling

Doppe · 23/09/2026 13:04

Going on the contraceptive pill helped me. I had terrible pain, lots of bleeding, awful mood swings, really bad breakouts on my skin. Since being on the pill all of these symptoms are lessened. There are different types of contraceptive pill and they affect people in different ways so there might be a bit of trial and error but maybe worth a try?

But multiple posters have said it makes no difference to them either. It’s (imo) one of those generic bits of advice that’s always trotted out about women’s health (see also, you need to lose weight). It’s lazy and dismissive and doesn’t tackle the real issue.

Exercise and diet is not the only advice i gave. I also recommended the pill.

an equal number of posters said drinking less alcohol and exercising made things better

Herecomethegirls1 · 23/09/2026 13:18

I take the pill, I do not drink at all, I exercise daily.

Have you discussed with your GP?

I sympathise OP. It's so frustrating when you do everything you're "told" and still suffer. It took me years to get a proper diagnosis and even then I was fobbed off.

Sunbringer · 23/09/2026 20:58

Progesterone only pill. Haven’t had a period in 6 years and no symptoms either. Steady as a rock. I’m like a man but pretty and calmer.
