AIBU to expect a refund after wee flavoured hotel bed?

AIBU (fully open to being told I am!) to expect my money back, under Premier Inn's 'Good night guarantee'?

I'd been on the bed a while before I noticed an unmistakeable smell - the previous guest had wet it! My warmth and the pressure of me lying on it had released the odour, which when I got up and pulled back the bedsheets was overpowering! No significant dampness to be fair, but my pajamas were contaminated. I immediately told reception and they were great, very apologetic, and moved me to another room. But I had to have a thorough shower (at 11pm) which woke me up, and I felt 'icky' all night even in the fresh bed, so didn't sleep well.

I asked for my money back and they refused, saying the issue was resolved by moving me to another room. I can see where they're coming from, but on the other hand I DIDN'T have a good night, because of an oversight on their part!! I'm disappointed in PI. I thought their customer service was better than that. I'm a fairly regular guest but I'll be thinking twice before booking with them in future!

What do you think?

@Matlocking- I was uncomfortable!! The pillow was hard and the bed wasn’t comfortable.

I complained to premier inn before after I had a terrible night’s sleep. I got precisely nowhere. They weren’t interested.

What was the cause?

I cannot believe that people think getting a different room after going to bed in a piss soaked bed is adequate. The British have an incredibly low bar for poor service but this really takes the biscuit. A piss soaked bed????? I'd expect a refund and a comped room or I wouldn't darken their door again.

It wasn’t soaked, per OP’s own admission

I don't think it's true that the reception team fixed the issue, and I don't think HO will either.

Obviously the hotel is tasked with fixing it and avoiding payment under the guarantee did what they could, so they want to argue no payment, but actually OP's sleep was disturbed (which is what the guarantee is about) so payment is due, and I think if she takes it up with "Premier Inn" rather then the hotel, she'll get her refund.

OPs issue was the bed smelt like wee, they fixed the issue by giving her a new bed and room.

The guarantee is for if they can’t sort something out for you.

You also had to take your pjs home in your bag stinking of someone else’s piss and wash them!!!🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮 I’d be asking for new pjs too as well as a refund for the night sleep refund!!!

Can anyone be “very very disappointed” in something they presumably had pretty low expectations about to start with?

I didn’t realise I was so sad about it I wrote very twice haha.

Although I was very disappointed that they did not have orange juice, only apple or apple and orange.

As a non hot drink person who dislikes apple juice I had to have the water which also tasted off.

CandyCrushLevel14809 · 22/09/2026 16:46

I can sort of see how this might happen.
Bed is wet right in the middle. Housekeeping pull the sheets off w/o really looking at them. They throw the new sheet on and pull it taught before tucking in. Would you always notice a wet patch?
I suppose they should be running a hand all over the mattress before making it up.

Mentionitous · 22/09/2026 16:46

I’d definitely be putting a full and honest review online about it…

americangirls · 22/09/2026 16:46

I think YABU. As soon as you made them aware that it smelt they moved you.

CandyCrushLevel14809 · 22/09/2026 16:45

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/09/2026 09:27

I got refunded by them once because of the noise of trams outside the hotel - and that must be present every night!

But I didn’t sleep well because of it so didn’t have a good night. They were really loud!

You should definitely get the refund.

Technically they don't cover noises outside their control so you were lucky.

CandyCrushLevel14809 · 22/09/2026 16:43

Your sleep was affected, they fixed it.
I think you'd only get a refund (under the GN guarantee) if they had been unable to move you or change the mattress.

JudgeJ · 22/09/2026 16:41

We once stayed in a Holiday Inn and got locked in the room, the mechanism was totally kaputt. We called down and they sent someone to release us and change the lock, a bottle of wine and a fruit basket appeared half an hour later. When we went to check out after a total of three days there was a 50% deduction to the bill!

You seem rather on their side in this.

I’m on neither “side” 😆 I don’t give a hoot either way but it’s pretty funny that this is the OP’s second thread about her PI stay!

Doubleknow · 22/09/2026 16:37

Coconutter24 · 22/09/2026 16:31

If they had left you in that room with a wet bed then yes you should get a refund under their guarantee but as you reported it and they sorted you a new room no you shouldn’t get a full refund. The guarantee says ‘if the reception team cannot fix the issue’…. But they did

They SO think you did it @SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter

Exactly.

PI is a Mecca for pissed up stag and hen dos. I imagine this hotel has seen many a pissed bed and many a guest claiming it was like that!

AlwaysExtraHot · 22/09/2026 16:37

Matlocking · 22/09/2026 16:36

Sure because I think Premier Inn won’t be quaking in their boots 😆

You seem rather on their side in this.

AlwaysExtraHot · 22/09/2026 16:34

Do you work for them?

Sure because I think Premier Inn won’t be quaking in their boots 😆

Cutletcake · 22/09/2026 16:36

I don't blame you for feeling icky after it and yes it would definitely have disturbed the nights rest.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 22/09/2026 09:25

II think they did resolve by moving you so I think they have a point…

Exactly. Although they still gave me a partial refund when I made a comment on social media about their mattresses being uncomfortable. And I didn’t say anything at the time.

Coconutter24 · 22/09/2026 16:31

You’d be very very disappointed at a travel lodge breakfast op. Even as a meat eater I felt robbed for the over cooked dry as cardboard food. Don’t book there.
