Compliance interviews aren’t used where fraud is suspected. They are normally routine/random checks on claims or when information needs to be confirmed or updated.

Sometimes there is an escalated compliance interview where a routine compliance interview indicates a problem, but when fraud is actually suspected the DWP will carry out an investigation - where necessary using undercover surveillance during which they can monitor comings and goings, take photos and interview neighbours.

When they’ve built a case they will ask the claimant to attend interview under caution. Unlike compliance interviews, IUC is part of a formal criminal investigation, the interview is conducted under the rules of PACE and the claimant is read their rights.

They've put more money into trying to stop fraud but that won't necessarily mean people being watched. The normal procedure if someone is suspected of benefit fraud is to go for a compliance interview

If they aren't using it they don't need it, and so many people do (I'm in temporary housing). We were in a Travelodge before this house and have no idea how long we'll be here. Were miles away from school, family. Utterly selfish. I'd report them.

Did you actually read my post, at ALL?! 🙄 I said they need to issue an NSP.... If you knew anything about this you would know that this a Notice to Seek Possession.

The council would not just go and change the locks. A notice of possession of recovery has to be served and then they would need to go to court

No-one knows that they AREN'T claiming benefits either.

Best to report them so they can't take the piss even more than they're already doing.

Also, in my post, I said they MAY be claiming benefits, more likely housing benefit...... (not that they definitely were.....)

You would seriously be an unpaid servant to these people who are taking the piss out of the social housing system? And on what planet would the council take 18 months to do anything about it? They will issue an NSP, and say they have information that suggests they are not living there. The council needs to demand that they show them the last 3 months utility bills, and 3 letters addressed to them dated over the last 3 months. And not next week's date, last week's! And they need to go and change the locks if they can't provide any of this.

I think they need to be investigated for benefit fraud too, as they may be claiming housing benefit.

I'd lean into it for my and the area's benefit. Nothing to be gained from reporting IMO, the council would probably take 18 months to do anything anyway!

I would offer to turn on the lights, open the curtains and windows to air it out, or whatever would make the place look lived in, asking of course if you could do that for them. If the grass needs cutting especially in the front (if there is grass), I'd offer to do that too now and then.

No point in reporting and waiting months for anything to be done (if anything would be done), while you could make sure the house and gardens are looking ok.

You could say they should do that themselves. Fair enough if they do, but if they don't, and if they are ok with it, the above is what I would offer, for my sake and the sake of safety from burglars (not guaranteed) and the look of the road.

keep your nose out, the system is buggared and they had no choice but to take!! What harm is this doing you?

They could be using for benefits. The partner works and I don't think hes down as living there. When she leaves the partner is picking her up so could potentially be taking her back to his place.

Not all council neighbours are loud though, we have a few council on this street and they're lovely people. So not worried about who moves in after at all. I just see it as they're taking the piss as they have other means of accommodation and taking up valuable resources which there already is not enough of.

Whether you should report it or not, nothing is going to happen. They'll just say they are living there. People in SH are allowed to spend nights away from the property, to go on holiday or stay with friends/relatives. Worst case scenario, they'll just move back in for as much time as they have to and potentially make your life hell! They'll likely figure out someone in the street reported them, they don't plan to be there long term so they have no need to be good neighbours in the interim.

They wouldn't have been given the place if they weren't eligible for it. Having someone they can stay with temporarily is very different to having someone they can move in with. So what do you think will happen? They won't be evicted because their circumstances haven't changed. If (and it's a big if) it even went to Court, they could just say they stayed elsewhere temporarily for a myriad of reasons, and they'd be given another chance. It's extremely difficult to get someone evicted from SH.

I also don't see how you can be so sure of when they have and haven't been there. Unless you're permanently watching the place you don't know when they may have popped in or spent a night there.
