Just seen a weather report where everyone is super excited about well above average temps. Our local area water pressure has recently been turned down as a direct result of the drought. Anyone else just so done with all this? My kingdom for a cool night where I can sleep properly again! It’s been FIVE MONTHS since I’ve been able to use a duvet.

I’m with you! I’ve suffered for five months now and no I’m not an unfit overweight moaner that people stereotype as being heat intolerant. I have genuine medical and genetic reasons why i can’t regulate my temperature when it’s hot. However - 6 and I’d be fine but apparently I’m not allowed to reciprocate calling people “melodramatic “ for struggling in colder temperatures.
unfortunately the heat and the myth that only larger people hate it has exacerbated an eating disorder, which rationally I know makes no sense but due to such stereotyping you bet I can’t wait to cover up in winter clothes and feel dressed with some sort of dignity as I feel like a ship in full sail in summer clothes- they just don’t suit me. But at least we got our summer eh?😢. Meanwhile my poor immune system is crying out for cold and dry conditions to function better.

I get overly hot after showering and drying hair and have to leave a gap and sometimes open window.

It takes ages for me to cool down and my face is flushed - I am overweight and peri.

Definitely a medical issue rather than a weather issue if you are still under a sheet anywhere in the UK

to be fair, I am in London, temperatures have gone back up a bit, I sleep with only a bedsheet and all the windows opened. That said, it's very pleasant, it's not HOT and the nights are absolutely much cooler than the days.

I think the OP exaggerates quite a bit...

Has anyone ever died from the cold? I find that hard to believe. Lowest temps we get are about 5 degrees but that’s outside. Most houses barely go below about 12 degrees. That’s not deadly.

I'm afraid there have been people, mostly elderly, who have died from hypothermia in their own homes.

Well it certainly feels that way. I’m in my home office and, yet again, am typing in darkness with the curtains closed because the sun is blazing. When I looked out over the garden, it was so dry I couldn’t sworn I saw a mirage of camels, palm trees and a shimmering pool of water.

Exactly. I know very few people who are wishing for it to be minus 6 Celsius! That's bloody FREEEZING. I hate it really cold. It makes me ill, and I get Reynauds in the fingers and toes, and it's so unpleasant. Energy bills are going up a lot this coming winter, and some people are going to struggle to heat their home, and some people will die from the cold. Wishing for minus 6 Celsius is batshit! (As well as selfish!)

Sounds like there’s a real north south divide here. Where I am (East), the night temps are barely any different from day temps.

I do understand the sort ‘be grateful it’s nice’ comments. For me, it’s the fact the above-average heat has been going on without a break since May. I feel like I’m going mad.

There’s also the fact I ‘run hot’ generlly, and now even more so given the change.

It would appear the most people ‘run cold’ hence the fact some are talking about having the heating on when temps fall to low 20s (indeed, a hotel I stayed at for work recently had the heating on full blast when it was 25 deg and I thought I was going to die).

I’d much rather be cold and put on more clothes than be so hot but not able to walk around with no clothes on.

it’s fuckinv horrible. I’ve been utterlh miserable and uncomfortable since the beginning of May. Sweat literally pouring off me most days. It’s hideous

Thank you! If I can be told to enjoy the stifling heat and humidity then other people can be told to enjoy a nice fresh frosty walk, frankly.

I don't engage in whataboutery. I don't never mention my children because some people can't have any, or my husband because some people are single.

I'm not "wishing for -6", it's at the bottom of the range I am comfortable in but don't let that get in the way of a narrative, will you. As for health conditions I do actually have one which is exacerbated by the heat - rheumatoid arthritis.

Yeah, last night was the first properly cold night and it's fresh again this morning but it's warming up again later.

It’s no different. Extreme weather is a pita. This summer’s heatwave pretty much confined my elderly mom to her home (though I don’t think 28° is as extreme as -6)
