Body Language

Do you study body language much on conversations?

It's not just what people say, they can give a lot away with their body language?
I've a friend and if she's in a difficult or unsure position she'll say I'll wait to see what there body language is like first, and then I will know.

We concentrate so much on what people say, but does anyone use body language too?

I read a body language book years ago which was interesting. I wouldn't say day to day I think about it when interacting with others, because its more sub conscious. I do see body language on TV, people being interviewed etc and sometimes think 'hmm, they are lying or they look uncomfortable' etc.

But this is the thing, and why it's mostly bullshit: what's 'normal' for someone may not be normal for someone else. So unless you know someone very well and are therefore very familiar with their 'body language', it's not possible to judge them.

You can see how much you actually read it by communicating by zoom for a bit. It’s surprisingly tiring, communicating in person is a lot easier

Never thought of Zoom
Never had to.use it really.

I only would bother if I was going on the dating scene again.

Body language is a pseudoscience, though. There's no reliable way to tell how someone else is 'really' feeling.

Agreed. People who are shy or introverted are often mistaken for being stand-offish or shifty. And those who appear very open and outgoing can really be the most insecure people in the room.

Don't get me started on people who think their dog can read body language..

I don’t ‘study’ body language, and have many perfectly fine interactions without being able to see the other person at all (maybe it’s a skill developed in the phone eraGrin). But I think we all do clock body language either consciously or subconsciously.
