I don’t pay as we don’t watch bbc or anything related to the requirements of having a licence. I registered this online. Had a letter a couple of weeks ago saying they would be paying us a visit Wednesday of last week. They didn’t. Wouldn’t answer the door to them anyway.

It's only a bargain if you use it though? It's a bit like saying everyone should buy a football season ticket

The number of people who can’t spell either TV licence or TV programme does seem to correlate generally with those who don’t pay.

I don’t pay but I don’t watch live tv or iplayer either. I was considering rejoining but then saw an advert for a Steve Coogan travelogue and it put me right off again.

Personally, "the fuss" is about intimidating tactics used by the BBC to harass people who don't need a license. According to published figures, BBC pays in excess of 16 million to enforce TV license without actually raising any additional revenue.
I have never been harassed to this degree by any other private or public company. The tone of the letter alone is shocking. Imagine receiving a threatening letter from Netflix saying they will fine you for not purchasing their service.

We moved house 7 years ago, and we completely forgot to change the address on the tv licence.
For the past 6.5 years, they have been sending threatening letters, addressed to 'The Legal Occupier'. If they are too bone idle to actually research the name of the 'Legal Occupier', then how will they summon the energy to take legal action? Court papers and arrest warrants really need to have a name on them.

Until then, viewing is free apart from Sky, , Netflix, Amazon Prime, Paramount + and Apple TV subscriptions. Yippee.

I definitely pay and am glad to. I know my adult DC in their 20s also have a licence.

I pay it but begrudge doing so as the programs are mainly repeats, quiz shows and news

Yes I do and I have just starting paying for my daughter to have it at uni too. I listen to Radio2 most of the day and watch several BBC programmes including the news and my daughter likes the iPlayer. At 49p a day (98p for my daughter and I) I think it's a bargain. Netflix is cheaper at 69p for us both but I get a lot more out of the BBC.

you mean to say you watch the bbc but you don’t pay and you think the fact that the bbc tv you watch isn’t made in the UK makes that fraud ok?

In a few years they’ll have to have a total rethink about the tv licence because young people don’t watch live tv as much. My three children don’t have a tv licence because none of them watch traditional tv or listen to the radio, it’s all Netflix and Spotify for them. They constantly get hounded by the licensing people but have nothing to hide should they ever visit. I also think when people are struggling to pay bills this is the one that will go first so it doesn’t surprise me that the figures for evasion keep rising, I’d do exactly the same if I was ever in that position.

Yes I use it and pay. Of course if you don't watch any live TV you don't have to, but people who do watch live TV and don't pay are thieves.

Stopped our tv licence in 2020 when I realised we don’t watch any live tv or anything on BBC etc. Declared online no longer needed and that was that. Have to declare again every so often but that’s easy enough.

Don't know anyone with a tv licence, everyone has some mix of subscriptions like Netflix/prime/paramount/disney.

I pay. I'm listening to the radio right now. BBC TV and radio is cheap as chips.

Yes I pay, although I don't consume a lot of BBC output anymore.

I think the BBC is a national treasure and struggle to understand why people love to hate it so much. I think the grand price of approx 40p per day isn't much to pay for one of the world's most respected broadcasting institutions.

When we were doing up our new house but still living in a rental house we were hounded by tv license letters at the new properties.
They even listed what had been watched on iplayer which is registered to an email address rather that street address.
I had notified them from the beginning that the house was empty. I kept in touch and they kept telling them that the house was vacant and didn't have WiFi and eventually they stopped.

We don’t need one. Nobody has hassled us.

I don’t watch any live tv at all, so I don’t pay. I fill out the disclaimer every year or two and that’s that. Virtually all my viewing is streaming from YT (not live channels there)

The only time I miss it really was when things like the World Cup are on. I listened to a few of the England games on the radio, and visited friends for the others. I occasionally take out a Disney sub for a month or two if there’s a film or series I want to watch.
