AIBU for suggesting someone not come to a meet up with their sick child?
I am a first time mum to a 7 month old (I’m also autistic, this doesn’t affect me too much but I am told I can be rude without meaning to be so there’s a chance this could be the case here). I feel it’s important to add that myself and my husband have terminally ill family members so we have to be incredibly careful around illnesses to ensure they don’t get sick.
Whilst I what was pregnant, my husband and I took part in an antenatal course with approximately 11 other couples who were expecting babies around the same time as us. We are all still in contact the mums have a group chat which we use regularly and we try and meet up as often as possible. Over the weekend we had a big meet up arranged with most of the parents and babies from this group. The morning of the meet up the group chat was obviously very busy. One of the mums sent a picture of her baby asleep and captioned it “my poorly baby”. I responded to this saying how I hoped the baby felt better soon and politely suggested she miss this meet up if her LO is unwell so they can rest as they are also going abroad this week and we’d see her at the next one. She completely ignored me. It’s important to note that she and the rest of the group are aware of our family situation regarding illnesses too. I felt this was a reasonable request to considering our personal circumstances as well as there being around 10 babies aged between five and eight months all meeting together. We also have meet ups every week (not always with this many of us but it’s not as though we only meet once a month or so). I don’t want my baby getting sick and I would have assumed the others would not either however it was very awkward at the meet up. I was completely ignored by this person and her husband there were others who were clearly very awkward around me too. The Abby was clearly unwell, very pale, coughing lots, crying lots and needing a lot of comfort. Since then my messages have mostly been ignored in the chat and there’s a very awkward atmosphere.
So AIBU?
