AIBU to think Boy George should retire from performing now?

What does that have to do with anything?

It doesn't matter why they want to go.

From a business point of view they do want to go and are willing to pay to do so.

Therefore why would anyone in that position retire if they were still making money from something they enjoy?

It makes no sense and I can't even stand Boy George.

I swear he had like two songs with CC in the early 80s then reinvented himself as a shite DJ. But his last attempt at producing music was using AI to 'write' a reggae song praising Israel for some kind of bribe?

They're paying the money, he's providing the service.

I used to quite like him. But recently I saw a YouTube clip of him on the voice. He asked a contestant if he played guitar as well as piano "yes, but no one wants to hear me play guitar " which i took to mean either he's not that good, or he's tried and its not been great

Someone I know is absolutely obsessed with him, everything is about him, goes to every concert, and always in pics with him. I find it so cringe worthy.

@UncannyFanny Do you think we’re all obliged to think kindly of someone who has committed a violent crime just because they got caught and served a sentence? That’s a strange logic. Especially as George has never shown remorse publicly. It’s no skin off my nose either way, I think he’s a shit ‘artist’ with a humongous ego so I was never going to be attending his concerts either way.

It seems that some people here are naive about how the media works if they can’t understand why he hasn’t been cancelled.

He can retire whenever he sees fit- that’s up to him.

Just as any intelligent person can not go to see his work because he is an horrendous excuse for a human.

I can’t stand him and don’t understand the appeal. I’m aware of a couple of Culture Club songs from the 80s, one of which was decent, but I’m not familiar with any other music he has made. He seems to me like someone who has had a long ‘career’ off little more than a one hit wonder.

But I’m not hugely surprised that some people are still happy to part with £££ to see his concert. If Michael Jackson was still alive and touring, there would be millions of people happy to pay a fortune to go to his concerts. When people are superfans they are often able to overlook the crimes of the artist, or to minimise or excuse them in some way. (And yes, I’m surprised if George has superfans, but there’s no accounting for taste).

Some crimes are unforgivable.

It's not compulsory to do to the tour. I'm sure the people that do go won't feel "ripped off".

I can’t believe he hasn’t been cancelled. He has a criminal conviction for what he did to that young man. Yet has been on Brit awards and a celebrity type show since. My young adult daughter rolls her eyes when I start going on about it if he comes on tv but I was surprised how many younger people had no idea of his criminal conviction.

He evidently needs to keep earning, and people will pay to see him, so it is what it is.

I heard him being interviewed on radio 4 a while back, they asked him about that poor man he harmed. He seemed to view himself as the victim it was vile.

He's revolting. Some people are prepared to put the actions of the private individual to one side if the 'art' is good (see Roman Polanski). Unfortunately for George O'Dowd, his 'art' is increasingly shite, so he hasn't even got that going for him.

If people are daft enough to pay to see/hear him then he will go on doing it. Who can these people be?

I think he’s disgusting, the only reason he wasn’t “cancelled” after being convicted of assaulting that man was because people are scared of being called homophobic.
He’s a sex offender and a misogynist and I wouldn’t even go to his concert if I was given free tickets
