Not getting out of the way for influencers/instagrammaers

Yep total dickhead behaviour. Instagram has ruined so many places sending too many people there! Bloody annoying!

We'd all like clear photos without others in them but that's unrealistic.

If they're that fussed they can AI you out of the picture. Can't stand this trend for doing things solely for the social media post. It's one thing to be doing something anyway, take a pic and put it on but to go somewhere or do something solely for the purpose of it is just sad, in my view.

Did they ask you to get out of their way?

Sometimes if I see someone clearly taking a picture with their phone I'll give them a minute but if they take any longer I'll just go past around them.

We had it a lot last summer in Santorini, they were everywhere. I don't mind waiting a moment or going out of my way to keep out of a photo (influencer or normal person) but I begrudge waiting whilst they take ages and will then just carry on. One would have definitely had me in the background in my towel going up the steps 🤷😆

Went to lake como on the summer and completely fucked off by the influencers is there cheap knock off D&G dresses literally pushing people out of the way to take 1000s of photos. I found the easiest way to deal with this was to copy what they were doing at the same time they were doing it. Nothing puts a 20 something off doing something more than a a middle aged woman in shorts and trainers doing exactly the same thing. The upside for me and DH is we’ve actually got some great photos of us strolling down the steps in Bellagio or looking wistfully out across the lake.

I’m developing a new hobby of getting in the way of instagrammers. It’s great fun! And requires an interesting set of skills, including leisurely sauntering, looking at beauty spots in detail, and being entranced by beauty.

We went to a lavender farm earlier in the summer. We spent an inordinate amount of time politely waiting for people to take photos, setting up tripods, getting themselves into shot…it was ridiculous.

I think I’m going to make NOT politely waiting my new hobby.

YANBU but I kind of envy the much more detailed record many people nowadays will have of their life to look back on.

Until recently I felt like I was quite aware of people taking pics and would wait/wouldnt want to walk between the person taking it and the subject.....but some places ive been (in central London) you kind of cant help it, you'd either be waiting for half an hour, or have to take a mile detour. I dont intentionally photo-bomb someone's pic but at the same time normal life is happening for everyone else, and its impossible to avoid every single person's photo op!

I live in a touristy place and there’s no way you can stop and wait or avoid all these people! Sorry, some of us still have to get to work, school etc. and don’t give a flying f* about your stupid fake poses. If they were just taking holiday snaps I’d be more tolerant but all these model poses and V fingers is just ridiculous,

I became infuriated with them on my recent trip to Paris. Some people are more interested in posing in front of works of art than actually looking at them. I did just stand in front of a few peoples shots to actually do what you’re supposed to do in galleries and look at things. I found myself wishing they would ban photos in these places.

It's everywhere. At my gym, people will set up a tripod to film themselves and get shots whilst on the machines meaning they not only take ages but you're conscious about being caught in the background. I just dont get it.

The art is to remain impeccably polite, so you cannot be criticised, but impede their narcissism at the same time.

This is not ok IMO! Does the gym not have rules about photography?

I ended doing this on a recent holiday to Switzerland, top of the Jungfraujoch they were queueing up to pose, no one got a look in

I don't mind waiting while someone takes a photo but it's the setting up of those silly cameras on sticks and jogging the scene

Yesss Lake Como was the worst for it, last week I was leaning on a railing admiring the lake and a couple came up and asked me to move. I pretended not to understated English (or any other language they tried).

The only other place I've been that was even worse for influencers was Hoi An in Vietnam.

Twas ever thus. Even in film camera and no social media days, people would apparently prefer to take hundreds of photos of each other blocking the very views they had come to see. I remember a couple getting very irate with me at the Grand Canyon because I wanted to take a photo of the Grand Canyon without their grinning mugs.

The evidence is that you remember less of the places when you take photos than when you just are fully present

I had this at a trendy bar once when I went there with a friend. It wasn’t that busy and was actually quite amusing watching them simper, pose, pout to the camera and set up the shot. It was slightly irritating though, but was when influencers were starting to be a thing, if that makes sense.

I honestly DGAF if I get in the way of influencers posing in front of a tourist spot for their dumb photos.

I live in Amsterdam and I usually just barge through. It feels really rude but I’d seriously take a lot longer to get anywhere otherwise, because there are just SO many tourists. They’re doing nothing wrong by taking a photo, but at certain times of year you’d be stopping a couple of times on every bridge!
