AIBU to ask for a refund over a noisy macerator toilet?

It’s currevtly nearly midnight and I can’t sleep. I am staying with my daughter away from home as we visited my other daughter at uni today. We are staying in a very clean and comfortable room in a sort of unmanned hotel/guesthouse in a residential area as I couldn’t afford the prices of the hotels on the city centre.The reason I can’t sleep - the macerator toilet keeps making a loud grumbling sound every minute or so, it’s really loud, even with the bathroom door shut. Sounds like it might be faulty. My daughter next to me is fast asleep luckily. Do you think this is grounds for requesting a refund?

Sounds like it's overflowing, which triggers the macerator as the bowl fills. They are bloody loud so I'd definitely complain.

Did the listing specify that a Saniflo/macerator is in place? If it did, I’d pop in some earplugs and just get on with it. I think it’s a bit crap to try and rip them off for this. They’re not THAT loud.
Chances are, it’s not faulty. Trust me, you’d smell it if it was and the toilet would back up with dirty water.

No it didn’t quote that a macerator was in place. I don’t have any earphones here. Yes it is very noisy and it makes the loud noise about every 60-90 seconds.

I’d complain and I’d ask for my money back. Have you recorded or videoed the noise?

Can’t you turn it off? As long as you don’t use the loo or anything that drains into it it should be fine. There should be a spur switch maybe with a little red light. Just flick it off and put something on the loo seat so you don’t forget.

That’s sorted - thank you! I have never experienced this type of toilet before so had no idea how they worked. Appreciate you coming here to comment.
