Dealing with people on Facebook Marketplace driving me nuts!

People are so odd! 😂

I recently had this delightful message. Because I read his inital message but didn't respond within 4 hours 🤷‍♀️

Agreed.
Humans are a constant let down.

Marketplace is full of rude time wasters most of whom can't be bothered to read the actual advert.

I advertised a table for £10 and got messages just barking "Price?" at me.

Constant expectations to deliver even though I have clearly stated Collection Only.

Others asking whereabouts I am when the postcode is on the listing.

Then there are the scammers who are about as convincing as those Nigerian princes who used to want send me a million pounds if I could just send them a few thousand first.

I was once looking for a TV for our bedroom as ours had broken

I didn't want anything swish,it was to watch a dvd before bed

I found one,messaged the seller about it (was perfectly polite) and got a snotty message back,asking why I was messaging her

I explained that I wanted to buy the tv she had up for sale,she told me to fuck off and she blocked me

Turns out a friend of mine had also seen the ad,messaged her and got the same mouthful back that I got

Why put an ad up to sell something and then get funny when someone messages you about it?!

I refuse to do it anymore.

I was selling a corner sofa. Measurements listed, as was my location.

Someone messaged to ask if I thought it would fit into a Ford Fiesta…

Another asked how far away I was from a specific location, as he was considering carrying it home…

I also sold someone a DVD player who then lied, said it didn’t work properly and tried to intimidate me into sending him the money back via bank transfer.

I cannot abide the 85 inevitable “is this still available” messages and, when you reply, you never hear back from them.

I've had two no shows so far this month from people who were meant to buy items from me. Then there was the guy who wanted my unopened tin of outdoor paint (which I specified as outdoor paint on the ad) who proceeded to ask me at collection if he could use the paint indoors. He must have mistaken me for a Dulux rep

I had a no show once, I messaged them to say it would have been polite to let me know and they told me their house had flooded. I asked if they still wanted it but they never replied..

When DH and I moved in together we put some furniture, a microwave and some bits up for free. Someone came with a few helpers and loaded it all up. Not even a smile from any of them let alone a thank you!

I’ve been fairly lucky….but live in a small community so it’s fairly easy to work out scammers or idiots. It’s also safe to leave stuff out in the porch/drive and ask people to put money in the letter box!

I’ve found gardening groups the best….they seem to have a much smaller percentage of no shows!

I was selling an office chair. This male started off with normal questions, then asked me to film myself standing on the chair dancing like Shakira!!! Obviously I told him to piss off!

Some people treat it like a boot sale. I put on a fold up bed with mattress. I had paid £135 for it and only used it for 3 weeks after an operation. I didn't even lie on the mattress because it's thin, so I had used my own bed mattress, which I explained in the ad. I asked £50 for it, which I thought was reasonable considering it was relatively new and barely used.
First respondent said "Need it asap u take £25. Come now". That was a no.
Then someone else offered half price. I couldn't believe the cheek. I sold it a day later to a lovely gentleman for the full asking. People really do want stuff for nothing, and are rude how they ask for it.

My son had a bed like that they weigh a ton!

Weirdly the Kallax thing is true. Why so desirable?

Yesterday a bloke enquired about a £1 item (intending to give free, the quid was hoping to deter the time wasters) which I had listed measurements in centimetres. He wanted them in inches. I did not bother replying!

I think because not everyone has an ikea close by and the delivery costs in relation to the furniture costs. I think they have more options these days though.

my parents passed away and trying to clear the house I wanted to give away as much as possible and I had the same difficulties. People want you to deliver, don’t show up, show up 3hrs late with no explanation, arrive in a smart car to take away a sofa and then moan it doesn’t fit.
it has driven me mad! I don’t understand what is wrong with some people today.
the worst is not showing up. If you’ve changed your mind or can’t make it then just say! Everyone has a phone and it only takes a few seconds to say you aren’t coming. Saves me waiting in all day or all weekend for you!

I'm selling a bike and treadmill. My dad put the bike up for £350 which is the going price. Bloke offered £80! Settled on £120 and he didn't show up. My dad messaged him and he said something came up.

Its as bad buying! My hysbwnd said ge'd buy something for £40 (advertised prjce), seller great. Two dafs later seller wants to increase pride to £50. Husband szgs no, a dea, us a deal. Seller, its only a tenner. Husband, keep your x. Seller, ok you can have it for £40. Husband, I dont wang ut, gooc luck with your sale. Crazy

Yeah I suspected this would be the case so have never used it. I’ll stick to eBay Vinted etc.
But, when you’re advertising something can’t you state whoever turns up first gets it? Would that help focus their minds?

I was trying to sell an 8ft trampoline. It clearly said in the advert that it was buyer to dismantle (it's relevant because the only access to the back garden is through the house) and collect.
I even had one person ask if it would fit on the bus.

That really annoys me if they are not being truthful Veraandacupoftea as once I was rushed into hospital, managed to text the person who was meant to be picking up a. Item from me to say we would not be in and why.

When I managed to look at my phone after emergency major surgery all there was was abuse say I was a filthy little liar bitch and her son has been so let down by me. (It was some thomas train track).
A week later I go a nice text from her like nothing happened asking if she could collect, she got blocked..

I feel like its gone seriously downhill recently, I've completely given up. Had a big batch of good stuff recently and didn't manage to successfully get a single item away in 3 months. Put it all in local auction instead.

Plus the the amount of people who end up turning up with 2 twenty quid notes to pay for something that cost £30. Obviously hoping I will have no change and will let them have it for £20. Ha I do craft fairs so I always have change. And if I didn’t I would have been well if you want it I will have the extra tenner then.

I never give stuff away on marketplace.
If im giving it away I either put it on the local FB page or charity shop it.

Even if you put it on for a fiver it cuts the timewasters

It's better to give stuff you don't want money for, or very little money, to charity. Then you know it's going to benefit a good cause.

I've had arguments with my mum about it as she can't use FB and wants me to sell her stuff for her. I've explained that I just won't sell anything I might get less than £20 for so she goes to friends to ask them which is unfair. She really doesn't need the money but doesn't understand the hassle involved in being ghosted and having so many no shows!
