Last month it was my partner of 4 years birthday
we have a 1 year old son.

im cringing writing this by the way….
he hates birthdays & Xmas. He’s very awquard 🙄
I asked him so many times leading to his birthday what would you like?
I’ve bought him stuff every year he just doesn’t use it want so I said I prefer to get you something you truly want or need.
he made it clear he wasn’t interested didn’t want nothing but anything I did he was grateful for.
so I thought I’m not putting him through all gifts etc he hates it so I got him a £100 voucher for his fav clothes shop and we was going out for dinner that night (our treat) got him cards too and a little daddy gift from our son.

on the morning I gave it him with our son .. an hour later he was crying in the kitchen!!!!! I said what is wrong!??????? He said don’t matter. I said no tell me what is wrong!?
he said you don’t fkin love me you got me f*ck all you tight bitch !!!!!! And proceeded to cry!!!!!! Packed all his stuff and left after he majorly kicked off. (He has an empty house he owns that he was gonna rent out) he’s gone back there not been back since. No apology nothing. He still fetches our son.

im still gob smacked. Am I the one in the wrong????? Please be honest.
by the way he’s a grown 50 year old x

Did he want the baby, or to live together? How long has he been 'going to rent his house out' for?
I'll be honest, the men I know around this age, who get with younger women, just want the sex. They put up with her having a baby, to keep things going. Something about your arrangement no longer suits him, so he's flounced.

Sunbringer · 19/09/2026 19:16

Did he actually say he wouldn’t mind what you got him or is that something you’ve decided he meant by saying anything is fine?

He’s obviously being dramatic. But I’m trying to work out where the wires have crossed.

Is he very rich and that’s why he thinks £100 is cheap? Does he lavish you in jewels every year?

Honestly? I think he’s upset because he’s turned 50 and he suddenly feels old so he’s taking it out on you.

TokyoSushi · 19/09/2026 19:12

Very weird behaviour, there’s definitely something else to it.

A deep dark background to his reaction, nothing you have done.

This.

Waytoohothot · 19/09/2026 19:10

Well i hope you leave him and dont take him back, why on earth would you think a man baby of 49 would want a baby, i can tell you whats wrong, you have a baby now and all your attention isnt on him, you are obviously younger than him so just move on, it will get worse

He might be 50 but he’s not a ‘grown’ man by the sounds of it. Ingratitude is a vile characteristic. Feel for you x

£100 is not token

I agree £100 is not a token.
He said he didn't want anything. She shouldn't have got the voucher- just a token gift from the son.

arethereanyleftatall · 19/09/2026 19:00

The worrying thing is that you have to ask if it’s him or you. What a horrible horrible man. Whatever you do op, do not let him back in to your life ever. Your son deserves to not be around this awful man 24/7. Next time - if a 50 year old man asks a 30 year old woman for a date - he is NEVER going to be a good man.

Notsosweetcaroline · 19/09/2026 19:00

wow why are you with this weirdo?

HidingFromSunshine · 19/09/2026 18:59

As someone who has complicated feelings around birthdays.
he’s an ungrateful, rude twat and your better off without him. If he gave you no ideas what the fuck did he want???!
has been bothered with your child since?

im with the others he wanted an excuse, even having the house still and not renting it out yet

theneighbourgotmycake · 19/09/2026 18:58

Chunkybabythighs · 19/09/2026 18:14

He wanted to dump you so came up with a bullshit reason

it's so bizarre it can only be this!

Anothercake · 19/09/2026 18:57

Mumdiva99 · 19/09/2026 18:56

I'm with all those calling him an arse. Sorry. He set you a made up test which you failed.
(How this should go is: him 'I don't want anything for my birthday' you 'here is a token gift from your son' him ' thank you very much. What time are we going out for dinner.' )

£100 is not token

Anothercake · 19/09/2026 18:55

Fuck me. If you'd shat in his coffee mug I'd understand his reaction, but he is clinically insane.

JaneFoe · 19/09/2026 18:55

Does he own/part own the house you are living in @whatthehellyy or is it fully yours? Is the one year old his only child?

He has ended the relationship with you for whatever reason, put in a claim for cms and move on with your life.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 19/09/2026 18:54

There's a reason why this manchild loser was single at 46yrs old when you met him.

This is it - no woman would put up with his dickhead, manipulative behaviour.

You're well rid. Get CMS and a formalised custody/access arrangements made asap.

Whatever you do, do NOT take him back, otherwise, you'll waste your best years being subjected to his pathetic games.

Happyjoe · 19/09/2026 18:52

Has there been any history of similar behaviour? It is very strange behaviour.
Am sorry OP, you must be in a bit of shock right now. Whatever happens, hope you'll be ok.

KojaksLollipop · 19/09/2026 18:49

What did he get you for your birthday? I’m betting nothing or some crappy thoughtless gift.

OfficerChurlish · 19/09/2026 18:49

I don't understand the "tight" comment (regardless of the rude delivery) unless he typically spends considerably more than the cost of the voucher + dad gift + dinner for you on your birthday. Otherwise it seems like he's set up a test to see if you can read his mind, and you've failed it - but he also gave you misleading clues ("happy with any effort", "don't want anything").

If this happened last month, he's been away for 3+ weeks with no explanation, apology, or plan for the future? I'd focus on getting the situation normalised for your child - you can get a CMS arrangement in place even without divorcing if you maintain separate households and since he sounds unstable a formal arrangement is probably best - and then doing what you need to do to move on.

RE whether you're "in the wrong" - of course not, based on what you have said here. You could legitimately have done anything or nothing for his birthday, and regardless of what you did his reaction is completely out of proportion with the situation and incredibly irresponsible (how can he just walk out of the house with no discussion or arrangement when he's responsible for a young child who lives there?)

MadGoodAndCompletelySafeToKnow · 19/09/2026 18:49

He's playing games with you - he wants you grovelling to him to win back his approval.

Do not contact him.

If he contacts you, tell him to fuck the fuck off.

If he needs to contact you about your son, he can do it via a solicitor.

bellhawk · 19/09/2026 18:49

Why did he expect more than £100 on gifts - is there more to the comment about being 'tight' with money? It does sound like he was just looking for a reason to go out alone.

SeptemberRains · 19/09/2026 18:46

@Motnight
They have a 1 year old together.

ThatCyanCat · 19/09/2026 18:46

He’s very awquard

He certainly is, and a dickhead to boot.

Motnight · 19/09/2026 18:44

I'm guessing that you are a fair bit younger than him Op? You've dodged a bullet as you won't need to look after him as he gets older.

Catza · 19/09/2026 18:44

rubyslippers · 19/09/2026 18:21

He’s not depressed
he called her a tight bitch and packed his stuff
my diagnosis is arsehole
